It sounds like you were trying to make a bigger statement than that. |
No I was not. It just makes me sad that in general people with great yirat shamayim are being very uncareful about one of the most important things: human life.... |
I think you answered your own question ... because people are human - some mitzvos are easier for some than others ... as are some safety issues ...
yes it's amazing how quickly we can learn after someone gets injured badly ... but again only some will change and others will still chance the danger saying "it won't happen to me" ... a car is a dangerous weapon and one should always be careful ...

I watched the video and caught something funny -- did this guy actually say that he had to overstuff the car because his sister from the US was getting abusive? Mature way to deal with putting all of these people in danger. Makes me want to suspend his license for some additional time.
By the way, a seatbelt saved my life.

mine too. the sun was setting and I couldn't tell the car in front of me had brake lights on. he couldn't tell that I wasn't slowing down.
I hit him at 55mph without braking, until the second before impact (too late). he was completely stopped. he was totally fine, but my glasses were stuck in the windshield and the paramedics freaked out when they saw a dark stain under my left breast. guess what it was? lipstick prints, upside down. my head and neck did a 180 degree snap extension and the seatbelt saved my life. I was 19 years old. I was in a neck brace for months and still have residual recurring problems at times.
unless we were G-d forbid fleeing from certain death, nothing would be worth overstuffing the car and putting people in danger. _________________ Life is not about who you can stand on top of, but who you can lift up!

I do feel bad for the guy - I know how it feels when you are being safety conscious and other people just think you are nuts, and worse, get annoyed with you.
I'm guessing it was his bossy older sister.

If my brother insisted on all of us being crammed into one car (which wouldn't happen, as he's very safety-conscious, especially where kids are concerned) I would save space by tying him to the roof rack where I wouldn't have to listen to him.

Yes, I will come down VERY harsh on anybody who will put their lives and those of others in danger like that. I can't stand it when people hold kids on their laps or don't strap them into carseats for WHATEVER reason!
Often when DS1 was a baby, before I had a car, I'd take taxis occasionally and I'd ALWAYS buckle DS into his carseat and fasten it with the seatbelt of the taxi. More often than not, I'd have to dig deep to find the close of the buckle, obviously they aren't used all too often! And how many times did I not get comments from the taxi drivers like, it isn't really necessary, just get in, just hold him tight, and "you Americans..." (I am from Holland :rolls: ).
It never stopped me from doing what I have to do.
Also, as a responsible driver, I refuse to take more people than my car can hold, including infants, and kids will ALWAYS be buckled into carseats. No exceptions. _________________ Certified Childbirth Educator

I don tknow if anyone has written this yet, (sorry I ddnt read thru this thread) but even in a car of buckled ppl, an unbauckled person becomes a projectile and can c"v harm the others in case of an accident (not to mention themselves)
When I see a car full of kids bouncing around in the back of the car, unrestrained, I feel ill at how dangerous the situation is!

interesting tou said that about cabs.... I took a cab maybe a year abo.. as I barely do and I got in, and a minute later realesed I wasn't belted in.. I quickly did it remembering a case of my neighbour and teh cabbie said as we were talking that he doesn't get the fine teh passenger does.
you know it's funny that on certain busses in london they have seat belts and justbefore leaving the driver... (a woman) (first time I saw that) announced on teh mic that we should all buckle up!!
