mine (1year) goes to bed at about 8 and wakes up from 6 (no later than 8) I give him a bottle but he wouldnt fall back asleep or stay in bed... would it help if I put him to bed later? he only naps once in the morning for about 2 hours so he's pretty tired by night he would probably even go earlier. it's really hard for me to get up so early and he's my first and I dont work so it's really not necessary....
how can I make him sleep longer????

Put him to bed later. And how much longer do you want him to sleep for?

My one year old goes to bed at about 6:30. At 10:30/11, he wakes up and nurses and then sleep until 5.

Some mornings he's up for 2 hours after, some mornings he'll go back to sleep right away for another hour or two before being up for 2 hours and then he had his first nap which generally lasts an hour.

My one yr old usually goes to bed around 9 and wakes up around 7. He sleeps about 1 1/2 hrs during the day.

My 15 month old goes to bed at 7/8 ish and wakes up around 6:30am. He's still on 2 naps generally, though some days we only do 1.

You definitely need an afternoon nap still at 1 year. When you go to one nap, it's supposed to be the afternoon nap. If you want to stick with one nap, try to push it off till at least 12pm.

It depends on the kid. Rivka never woke up past 6 no matter what time I put her in bed. She is like her Abba, early clock. My twins never sleep past 7. Last year we weren't working and no school so I tried to back up their bedtime even to 9 and they were still up at 6, wouldn't nap, and were tired & grouchy. It seems counter intuitive, but sometimes putting them in bed earlier will help them sleep better. Ten hours at night and a 2 hour nap doesn't seem like enough sleep for most 1 year olds. But honestly some kids are just up with the sun and you have to adjust / go to bed earlier / nap when baby naps, etc. You can't force him to sleep any more than you could force yourself to stay asleep at hours when you are not tired.

My 13 month old goes to sleep around 8 and gets up around 6. Putting her to sleep later makes no difference - except I will have a cranky baby the next day

I would say - put him to sleep earlier. I have read this in many books and seen this with my children. The later and more tired they are when I put them to sleep the earlier they wake up. I've read in many places that if you put babies and toddlers down to sleep earlier they will sleep later.

I'm with you 100% I put my dd who is 14 months at 6.30 and she sleeps to somewhere between 6.30 and 7 and somewhere between 9 an 9.30 she is ready for her nap which lasts 1 1/2 hours. She was going to bed at 7 until she dropped her afternoon nap and so now she's ready to sleep earlier. I strongly recommend the book "The baby whisperer solves all your problems" by Tracy Hogg, I love her attitude and thinking and she has some really great tips.

I think that depends on the baby, my dd dropped her afternoon nap at 10 months which I was in shock about as it is so young, (my older dd was on 2 naps until about 15 months when she went to a midday nap), I simply found that from about 9 months she was fighting the pm nap and it got to the point where I would work on the nap for 45mins and then she would sleep for a max of 20 mins and be grouchy all afternoon, however when I tried not pushing the nap she was happy, so I let it go. Also she wakes up between 6.30-7 and by 9-9.30 she is yawning and rubbing her eyes and if I try to postpone her nap, she just gets really cranky and then is overtired so she has trouble falling asleep. She sleeps for 1 1/2 hours and has no problem lasting until bedtime.

My almost 1 year old sleeps 11 hour nights and takes two 2 hour naps during the day.
