Dh just went to a shul that had a sign saying that celery was now a problem. That there are tiny worms inside of the celery. Anyone ever hear of this?

Yes, I've heard of it a while ago already. And I agree with mom7270 that if we keep this up, there will be no vegetables that are kosher. I just scrub the celery with a brush.

Yes, but I heard that the bugs are inside the stalks!
I can't deal. There's not going to be anything left to eat.
When bil and sil were in the states, they don't eat practically anything. Of course no leafy greens unless its frozen bodek. So, we just have cut up veggies to eat. I guess celery is out of that too now. I think its a conspiracy...

My bil doesn't eat frozen Bodek, either. I think some people just want to make their lives more difficult than it really needs to be.

We eat any fruit or vegetable. They grow in nature, nature has bugs. We rinse, we cook, we eat. Or, in the case of fruit, we put in bowl and eat.
I ate the most delicious strawberries today. Spring is here!

We peel off the outer layers of the celery and cut off the leaves.

| I also cut off the leaves, but peel the outer layers? How do you peel the concave side of a celery stalk? And, according to what I heard, the worms were inside of the stalk.

Poisonous mushrooms also grow in nature.
Have you ever, by the way, seen a magnification of the various worms and thrips inside fruits and vegetables? Gross. And that's besides the untold amount of issurim that apply to eating bugs of any size.

We also eat everything. Our rav allows, bh, and I don't encounter the same way of saying assur in Europe...

Yay for Europe
For Strawberries, we cut the outer layer, then rince them with dish washing soap, then rince again, then examine and we eat I find that quiet effective. I couldn't picture a summer shabbat without a "fraisier" (cream and strawberry cake).

If I find the occasional little something, I get rid of it during the washing process.
I have no doubt that magnified bugs are gross. Luckily, I don't eat bugs.
I think every time there's one of these notices about a new fruit or vegetable, somebody should do an investigation and really see how many they find. For a huge group of people to give up enjoyment of something without a real problem seems a shame.
