I've noticed that when women cover their eyes after lighing the candles, they seem to be praying. what do they say? is it only for women or also girls? who usually teaches this?

I think women say different things. There are tefilos, I am not sure what they are but I am sure the ladies can help us there. Some women think of their loved ones near and far and hope for their good health. I don't think there is a rule on what should be said. I always think of it as a chance to thank Hashem for a wonderful week (hopefully) and looking forward to the next.

There is no specific tefilos, however just daven from your heart. Thank Hashem for all the good things He has given you, daven for your family... that e/o should be healthy and well, have siyata dishmaya, parnasa...... It's your own personal and private time.

Hadlakas neros is a special time when a woman's tefillos are more accepted by Hashem. Traditionally, it's a time for a woman to daven that her children should be yerei shomayim and talmidei chachamim (or to daven for children if she doesn't have any yet) or for anything that her children need.

I can't imagine why a girl shouldn't be able to daven too, if she's lighting candles.

There is a special prayer for after lighting the candles too!
A beautiful yehi ratzon to be blessed with children that grow up to be talmidei chachamim..I say it every week. And of course you can add your own tfillot.
After the recitation, many take special time to thank G-d for the many blessings of health, prosperity, and joy in their lives. There is also a special prayer composed by women, for women, which many include at this time:

Yehi ratzon mi-lefanecha,

Hashem Elokai veilokei avotai,

she-techonein oti (ve-et ishi ve-et banai)

ve–et kol kerovai vetashlim bateinu.

Ve-sashkein shechinat’cha beineinu.

Ve-sakeini legadeil banim u-vnay banim

chachamim u-meirim et ha-olam ba-Torah

uve-ma’asim tovim veha’eir neireinu she-lo

yichbeh le-olam va-ed. Ve-ha’eir panecha

ve-nivashei’a Amein.

May it be Your will, Lord my G-d and of my fathers, to be gracious to me (and to my husband and children) and to all my family, crowning our home with the feeling of Your divine presence dwelling among us. Make me worthy to raise learned children and grandchildren who will dazzle the world with Torah and goodness, and ensure that the glow of our lives will never be dimmed. Show us the glow of Your face and we will be saved. Amen.

I found this on line but the version I say is slightly different.
