How often do I have to bathe my 6 week old? Every day? Every other day?

I think every day because babies are always spitting up and it gets in their hair and in the folds under the neck. Plus 6 week olds have developed sweat glands already so when its hot like this a bath is good to wash their sweaty bodies. Also it relaxes them before bed.

Thanks a lot...don't have much energy today so I was wondering if I could skip a day, but I guess I won't then. Smile

yeah they are so easy to bath ... try not to always make it a project ... but simple on a day that you have no energy ... wash up by the sink for 2 minutes with a washcloth instead of taking out the tub, etc ...

newborns should not be bathed everyday. the soap dries out their skin. 3 times a week is the recommendation that most peds give.

heres an article-- scroll down a bit.

I beg to differ on that ... all the Puke spit up and sweat ... they will do much better with a bath and sweet smelling baby lotions - physically and emotionally

Green eyes, there is no bible about bathing infants!

Yes, u can miss a day when ur tired.

The baby needs u now and if bathing him will take ur energy, skip it!

Please don't feel bad about not being able to bathe ur baby EVERY single day.

And even if their glands are working, they dont sweat or smell as much as grownups.

You can also ask ur dh to bathe him when he gets home!

we do bathtime 3x/week. even if you give a bath every day, nothing will happen if you miss a day here and there.

if the baby is dirty, you can sponge clean the dirty spots.

If the baby doesn't get sweaty (or particularly dirty), I don't mind skipping a day.

But since it's gotten very hot, ds will get heat rash if I don't bathe him everyday.

There seem to be different opinions. Some say everyday, some say the skin dries out if you bath too often.

We do everyday except Shabbos(since bedtime is before it is over), occasionally skipping another day during the week if something comes up.

It's part of the bedtime routine.

Also, bath time was made fun when we got a tafli insert. We no longer had to hold him the whole time and all started to enjoy bathtime.

a what insert?

also, it depends on whether your baby spits up or not. mine nver did so he didn't need his neck fat folds washed every day. and regardless, if you're very tired, or even a little, please skip the bath. it won't be the end of the world.
