How come no one mentioned what happened in Lakewood two weeks ago with the father forgetting and leaving his child in the car and going to Yeshiva?

You mean, so we can all bash him and all other irresponsible parents and feel smug about how perfect we are and that nothing will ever happen to us?

Its tragicaly sad and not something I want to discuss, because of the enormous guilt and pain that the family are probably going through already, why feed into it.

Anything happen to the kids?

I dont know if its Men or something but two weeks ago my husband ran into pathmark and told me he left my two boys in the car. I could have killed him. He didnt see anything wrong with it.

don't know why these things happen all the time ... it infuriates me when people do it on purpose ... but I guess one can make mistakes ... albeit on the wrong day - they could be deathly ones ...

Frum parents live very complicated lives and often have more on their plates than other people in society. To avoid this type of accident they should do the following:
Buy a special mirror that allows the parent to view the baby while driving.
Have the pre-school, day care or baby sitter call if a child fails to arrive without pre-cancellation.

No, it's not men. It's just different natures. My dh is much more aware than me of things like that.

But we once both forgot our newborn son in the car while we went into a store. b'h we remembered about 10 minutes later and it was not a hot day. So I guess it could happen to anyone.

Faige, unless we are talking about 2 different stories, a baby did sadly die because his father forgot him in the car. He dropped off some other kids at the babysitter, but forgot his own son.

But anyway, this is not something that was done on purpose. Poor people. Sad

If I'm not mistaken, that is what saved the baby in this story.

When a similar story happened that unfortunately didn't have a happy ending, R' M. Salamon said a story of a famous gadol (forgot who) whose daughter had an asthma attack and the family looked high and low and couldn't find her inhaler. She unfortunately was niftar from the attack and right afterwards, they found the inhaler in front of their noses. Point being, when Hashem wants a person not to notice something, they won't.
I know the people involved and I remember this story gave me chizuk at the time.
Of course as parents, we have to do the best we can, but this is food for thought.

what saved the baby is that the babysitter called the mother to tell her that her daughter is missing and the mother ran into yeshivah screaming. Also the window was opened a crack and that saved the baby too. Now in Lakewood before you walk into the yeshiva there is signs in big words all over the doors, do not leave your kids in the car. Also they are making it a rule that babysitters will call if a child is not there one day. B"h nothing happened.
