| I have seen a kosher cheese whiz type substitute, bet that would come into play here.

Here you go CM:
Boil a box of pasta in salted water
Drain and put the pasta back into the pot.
Add milk, margarine, chedder and american cheese, sour cream, and salsa or tomato sauce. Mix until everything melts.
Sometimes I'll also add some cottage cheese or Farmers cheese.
Yes, it's not healthy, but it's very good!

| Yep, I'm in golus, all right. I thought Mac & cheese meant a (you should excuse the expression) cheeseburger. Guess you can tell I never make the stuff.

I made a creamy mac & cheese today - I think this thread got me in the mood. I sort of mixed a recipe or two from another mac and cheese thread.
it was really good. basically it was butter, flour, milk, Amer. cheese and a little cottage cheese.
but it's very different from the box stuff! _________________ "G-d's gifts to you are your talents...How you use them is your gift to G-d."

As far as I've seen, they don't have cheddar or american cheese here, and I've never seen salsa here either...
Its sooo hard to make normal mac and cheese here in israel.
I wish they just sold the packet powders of those mac and cheeses... They're so yummy!! (I don;t care how unhealthy they are...) _________________ www.IsraelGlutenFree.com - Cheap gluten free flours and flour mixes

They do have cheddar here. At the cheese counter in larger supermarkets, and they will slice or grate it or whatever you want.
You can even get American cheese at some places that go out of their way to carry American products. In Beit Shemesh I know there is a store that carries American cheese.

Yup, you can definitely get cheddar (just not prepackaged...must go to cheese counter) and also salsa. I usually find the salsa near the ketchup/mustard/sauces and other condiments. _________________ Emmanuel Tzvi: 26 Shevat 5766

| Marion and Bambamama, do you know if there are stores with mehadrin cheese counters? As far as I know mehadrin cheddar, parmesean, and other cheeses are not availbale here. Though you're right, you can find rabbanut cheeses easily.

What types of stores are you talking about?
I don't usually go to big stores in jerusalem, and Rami Levi deffinitely doesnt have. Dunno if its worth it just for cheese... And salsa...
And I'm definitely not going out to Ramat Bet Shemesh for that.
And do these cheeses have a rabbanut mehadrin hechsher, or not even that?
If someone wants to get me some and bring it to me, I'd love that.

| The regular supermarkets...Mister Zol, Co-op, possibly even Shefa Shuk. Anywhere that has a cheese counter. Even most of the places at the shuk (Machane Yehuda). I have no idea what the hechshers are, as we are not makpid on mehadrin, but you can certainly ask; there must be a good cheddar out there! You can also check out www.dcity.co.il, an online shopping source in Jerusalem. They deal with SuperDeal in Baka, and they definitely carry salsa!

| Salsa is just burney sort of tomato stuff. You can add jalapenos or hot sauce to tomato sauce to simulate it.

I hven't seen the old city boxed mac and cheese since the winter.
I called kosher town since I don't walk over there often, and asked if they had it.
they said it became nonkoshr.
so.....keep that in mind , ....
