Did I say I was offended?

Did I criticize the poem?

Are we allowed to have opinions that differ from you?

The context in Shir Hashirim is that Hashem is knocking on Klal Yisroel's door because they have abandoned Him and He wants us to accept Him again.

How do you think Hashem knocks on our door? When we don't see the message from all the good He bestows on us, unfortunately, then He starts sending yissurim b'ahava to open our eyes.

I'm not really so comfortable with the idea that Hashem needs to kill people to get our attention. I'd rather think there were other reasons for these people's tragic petirahs that we don't and can't understand. Sorry, that poem did not do much for me.

Chassidus explains this passuk way differently. (Will research again b"n where I learned it.)

Healthymama, I'm with you on that one, especially in the context of "dodi" "achosi" "ra'yusi."

And simply, I don't like the switch from "knocking" to "POUNDING." Who said "dofek" suddenly means "pounding?"

Interesting way of putting it.
I can't give you either a name or a quote, but haven't you heard of Rabbonim conveying the thought that when many tragedies befall our nation we have to take it as a clear sign from above to repent?

I have, but I have also heard of rabbonim who say that we can't understand why bad things happen to good people.

Was the Holocaust a way that Hashem was knocking on our door? Breaking down the door? To get our attention to repent? Or was it something terrible the reasons for which are above our comprehension?

Rabbonim are very careful not to say Mr. Ploni was niftar because of XYZ, but say in we should view tragedies as a wake up call to ourselves to do teshuva. Nothing to do with the specific tragedy, but the fact that they are coming is what we have to take note of.

I looked it up and it says it refers to Hashem's warnings through the prophets.

And? We don't have neviim nowadays. Does that mean Hashem doesn't communicate to us?
