I see MSG onion soup mix (I believe Osem) in store and I am wondering are they truly MSG free? Or does it still contain MSG just under another name?
I use onion soup mix in many of my recipes! Does anyone know of any which are not terrible for you?

Thx!

The Osem MSG-free ought to be MSG free, but it's still very high in sodium.

There are recipes to make your own mix. Here's one:
http://www.joyofkosher.com/rec.....-mix/

But I can't say how good it is because I never tried it.

1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons minced onion
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container until ready to use.

I don't actually follow this recipe but when I really want onion soup mix specifically, I use these approximate spices in something like this ratio (I don't think I usually put in black pepper, and I almost always add garlic powder... but I don't do it exactly the same each time) and it works fine. Definitely pre-mixing with a recipe like this would save a lot of time.

Liebers makes soup mixes that are MSG free. I use them all the time.

I am extremely sensitive to MSG and have been using their diff flavor soup mixes for a long time. Definitely recommend Liebers, although I think Osem is really MSG free too(more expensive so never bought it)
