My parents were also very against it, but I'm a bad girl and do wear them . All my shabbos outfits are dry-clean only and a robe is soooo much more comfortable!

btw, if you're tall and slim (read: not bashinda! I have in the past been slim but there's no diet to become tall! ) some robes like raza are extremely elegant. now if they only had elegant robes which looked good on short people!

I think it's your DC background talking. In DC the buildings can only be as high as the capital building or not as high? In NYC the sky's the limit. So if you substitute bashinda for buildings I am to DC what someone who looks good in raza gowns is to NYC
Okay I should speak nicer about myself but at the moment I checked my waist size and according to the sizing charts it says I should be wearing xxl. Now I know that I don't fit into xxl (I'm a size 12!) but just thinking of that possibility is making me think that I'm Yonina the Whale right now.

Bashinda - you are the capital of our nation! The pinnacle of democracy and civilized culture!
Anyway, to me fashion is all about how clothes make me feel. My shabbos robe (a Raza I won in a chinese auction) makes me feel like a princess. When I first got it, I would even sometimes wear a tiara in my sheitel. I feel beautiful, tzanua and very kovoddik - it's only for shabbos! No matter how much rushing I'm doing to get ready for shabbos, after I bensch licht and put on my robe, I feel luxurious.

I dont like the look of a robe, no matter how elegant. it's just not my style at all. So I get dressed in pretty, washable clothes while I am home (think Old Navy sweaters and skirts) and I feel Shabbosdik and put together. _________________ I have bursts of being a lady, but it doesn't last long.

Introducing Yael I agree with you up to the tiara
P.S. My sister in law many years ago went to the ESPY awards and had to wear a gown instead of of renting or buying she wore her black velvet Shabbos Robe She got lots of comliments for her beautiful gown

I believe since the "shabbos robe" is made specifically for shabbos they do so with such grace and beauty and hence should not even be labeled a robe at all ... I still wouldn't foot the expense ... but I could see if you have the $$$ why not ... and recently they were making dresses just like the robes ... they must have gotten the idea from us _________________ don't wonder why people go crazy ... rather wonder why we don't
