I just got a gift certificate from a book store and wanted to hear people's recommendation for books . Anything recent or from the last few months.

I just read and really enjoyed The Wednesday Sisters: A Novel by Meg Waite Clayton

I also recently read a biography of Catherine the Great - also great.

I just started Divergent by Veronica Roth (2011)- it's actually a young adult book (like Hunger Games) - I'm very into it already and am looking forward to reading the whole series.

Any particular type of books you really like?

I love Where's You Go, Bernadette. I haven't read the other books you mentioned.
I hesitate to recommend books you can get out of your local library. Personally, I'd use the money on a cookbook or some sort of non-fiction.
But if you really want to buy a novel, The Rosie Project was pretty good too. Ayelet Waldman has a new book out, not one of her Mommy detective books but about the Holocaust, I have it on hold. The Family Fang is old but a good and thought-provoking read. Most of the rest of what I've read recently, fiction-wise, are series cozies.

Would you let me know if you think Divergent would be appropriate for teens? My ds just read the hunger games and really enjoyed it. Im Ok with him reading that, but wouldn't want anything more graphic than that.

Ah, Judaica. That's a different story. I just read Upwards by Shami Reinman. It's really, really powerful.

Not Judaica but clean, I recently read Still Alice by Lisa Genova and can't get it out of my head.

In The Courtyard of the Kabbalist, by Ruchama King Feuerman. I just read it. It's literary but is easy reading, and it's Jewish but not frummy-frum, and it totally pulled me in. I loved it, and I'm not easy to please.

This is not new, it's bonkers, but it's also a fantastic book (just in case you missed it when it came out!)

No spoilers, but the first book is the best and it's downhill from there.
The premise of the factions is fascinating but delicate and it just gets bogged down and plot-holey toward the end. Sad
