Brushing teeth- or not

My 15 month old fights every time I try to brush his teeth. I can barely do it, and I'm scared he'll get cavities. How do I get him to allow me to brush his teeth?

Start by buying him a cute toothbrush and kiddie toothpaste. Then make it fun and you brush your teeth too. Sing a song or do a special dance just for this occasion. give him a sticker

allow him to brush your teeth as u brush his Laughing

My toddler (now 19 months) loves brushing her teeth because she watches her big sister and brother do it too. She knows that mommy helps them for a minute, and then they can brush on their own, and I do the same with her...I brush her teeth, and then let her play with the toothbrush etc...I always make sure to do it when I am also doing the older kids...

How is my 1 year old supposed to understand how to rinse his mouth to get rid of the toothpaste?

I've been brushing my 8-yr-old's teeth ever since she's a toddler, and never with toothpaste. When she will be ready to use toothpaste she will, but right now she's 'scared' of swallowing it...
We just had a dental check-up and still no cavities, b''h. Seems brushing without toothpaste sure has its benefits! I don't see the need for toothpaste in very young kids, especially toddlers.
I once heard from a dentist that he brushes his kids teeth until age 10, to ensure it is done right.

if DS doesnt let me brush his teeth I let him brush on his own cos I think thats better than no toothpaste or brush getting in his mouth.
I try an brush my teeth at the same time so he really tries to copy the up n down movements that I make. I know its not perfect so I try n finish off the brushing myself.

What's the point of brushing w/o toothpaste - isn't that like taking a shower w/o soap & shampoo. They make special kiddie toothpaste that tastes good and I believe are formulated in case of accidental ingestion. Encourage her to use it.

So even if she has two teeth I should brush them? How many times a day do I do that?

frumom, if baby doesn't like taste of toothpaste, do with just water until he gets used to it.
or try with kids' toothpaste.
I do my kids' teeth (when I remember) and they don't rinse...there's so little toothpaste on there, I think it's safe..

DONT BOTHER WITH TOOTHPASTE, its a royal pain to get them to wash it off properly and it dries there all night GROSS.

use ACT rinse, it comes in pink bubblegum that my rivka LOVES, she dips her little toothbrush in the cap filled with the rinse, pokes around her mouth a bit, I finish the job up though. She loves the taste (its really sweet, I wonder takeh, if its helping ; )

but its a cavity prevention and its easy and my daughter looovves it.

good luck. The truth is, my mother laughs at me.. she says I never brushed your teeth and you still have all yours : ) its not so bad if you skip a night or two
