I'm from the South, and we eat "brownies". In New York, however, I keep hearing the term "brownie cake".

I think they are 2 different things.

Brownie Cake - has more of a CAKEY consistensy. more of a "tall" kind of cake.

whereas - Brownies - are more Chewy, and prob. made to be kind of shallow.

Just my guess....

Thumbs Up
I just recently made a brownie cake.
I call it a brownie cake b/c it was a cakey consistency though it was very chocolately hence the brownie part.
on the other hand at an event recently I ate a delicious brownie chewy and soft, and absolutly yum!!!

Some ppl do call brownie cake chocolate cake..
I think it might have to do with differnet cultures.. different communities..
I'm gonna venture a guess that the chasidish ppl say more brownie cake, rather then brownie and chocolate cake..

Brownie cake is shallower than reg. choc. cake and has more fat. But it is lighter than a reg. brownie too.

I think it's funny that this thread has found so much attention. What fun we are. 8)

Brownies, of course- but I may start calling them (it!) brownie cake just to start a new midwestern trend
