| just curious those of you who hike do you mind "going in the bushes"? I think its normal to not want to but my husband doesnt' see the big deal- its part of hiking, the issue is that sometimes there are a lot of pple and personally I'd prefer not to be seen going to the bathroom, regardless if e/o else does it also. I went but my sister held it in the whole time which my dh thought was soooo "city girl" and it annoys him. I think he's being judgemenytal and needs to realize other pple aren't him and they are entitled to their own opinions and decisions. we decided that I would take a survey here on imamother if my sister and I are normal girls even for those who goes hiking and that he should get over it. please only girls who go hiking answer. anyone who doesnt want to get sweaty etc.... are not part of the survey because I'm trying to prove to him that this middleground opinion exists. thank you

Ill do it, but only if I can get off the beaten path enough that I can be sure to be alone. Dont like to because of the issue of having to wipe. DH and DS have it easier, but we still make sure we are alone. I dont like doing it, but its better than the alternative.
That said....you do what you feel comfortable with. its your body and your bladder _________________ ~Rebecca

If you have no choice, you have no choice. But, I agree it's VERY uncomfortable and unpleasant and sometimes so hard to find a secluded spot. It's also nasty to leave toilet paper in nature, and the alternative is even worse (no tp....). _________________ The future simply isn't what it used to be....

Not the most comfortable or pleasant thing to do, but to me it's way more comfortable than trying to hike with a full bladder. Especially because we take long long hikes and I usually am chugging tons of water. _________________ "We need not appear in the world as an Alabama or South Africa." - Ben Gurion, 1963, in a letter to Prime Minister Levi Eshkol

| I also think the fact that you were having this conversation with your husband makes a difference. Guys are different like that (anatomically and mindset).

| I have, and I will, because what choice do I have? But not if there are people around--that's why you look for bushes, duh! Sure it's not the most pleasant thing, but neither is a UTI, and a UTI lasts a lot longer.

It's not something I look forward to doing, but if you gotta go you gotta go. There's no point in being prissy about it - just find a place off the trail. _________________ http://crunchyandkosher.blogspot.com/

It's totally different for women than for men. It's not like we can just stand up straight, whistle a tune, aim, and zip up in a second if we spot another whistling dude. _________________ "Don't turn your back. Don't look around. And don't blink. Good luck." -The Doctor

| Once while hiking with a friend she was really desperate and went into the woods to take care of business. At the most vulnerable time a deer hopped over to watch the show. She almost had a heart attack!

not to hijack the thread but I was wondering how do you use the bathroom in the woods. How does it work logistically-you sit?crouch?
I am travelling with little girls and I am trying to figure out how to have them go in the trees?

You're going on a long hike with little girls? Or just a long trip? That's what rest stops are for...

I love to take long hikes in the woods.
I drink alot while hiking and therefore I have to "go" alot as well.
So its really simple-enjoy nature, all the way!
Find yourself a nice private spot, far away from people, and do what you gotta do.
(and if there's a deer around-even better!)
The idea is to experience the joy of nature, which you can't do with a full bladder (or whatever)

You crouch, of course.

| I don't really go on long hikes but a good solution (for urinating) is to bring some very large paper cups and go in those. No crouching necessary. And some wipes and bags to store them in after for clean up. throw them all away when you find a bin.

I don't understand how that's easier. You still have to crouch.

| yeah for a girl you have to uncover your whole bottom, much more hard to be discreet than a boy who justs unzips. in addition, you have to worry about crouching just so - that you don't get pee all over you legs!
