Any soup would work.
Broccoli or broccoli-cauliflower
zucchini-potato
veggie
mushroom barley
fruit soup
etc...

This week I made butternut squash as per my husbands request
A lot of times I do a veggie soup...onion, carrot, celery, zucchini, parsnip, vegetable soup mix from osem and split peas.. Sometimes I blend it but sometimes I leave everything whole
I've been wanting to go the Asian route but haven't yet... My cousin sometimes does split pea soup or wonton soup and she puts bok Choy in it... It's delish..also velvety chicken corn soup

| Not split pea soup I meant to say egg drop soup. Although split pea is good, it's not Asian cuisine lol

if you have leftover frozen chicken soup, it is very easy to use that to make french onion soup. To my utter surprise, the kids actually ate it, too!
I forget the exact recipe, but it is basically lots of caramelized onions, soy sauce, some dry wine, maybe a little pepper, and presto!

| I also did tomato-rice soup a couple of weeks ago. It went over pretty well. Rice is pretty filling though if you plan on serving a full main course afterward; I did a lighter main course. I've been quite experimental with changing up our Friday night fare lately. I'm really liking it, we always had our traditions very stable and I like that too but it's nice to have something different and special for Shabbos. If I'm going to try something special it may as well be l'kavod Shabbos and not just a random dinner, right? And this week is rosh chodesh on Shabbos too so I'm going to try for something extra. Only it's afternoon already and I haven't decided what. Oy. Lol.

It has lentils, chickpeas, ground meat, and sometimes rice. They used to make it Darna and I haven't been able to find the same recipe online so I make up my own each time.

| If you start serving soup other than chicken on Friday nights, won't that be a problem if you serve soup during the week?

| With the way the weather has been lately (unless you are in the Southern Hemisphere), I've been making this Gazpacho for shabbos all summer.

What problem, you mean running out of soup ideas? I dunno, I don't perceive it as such a problem...
