In Europe, yes.

In EY, no. Unless you take maaser yourself on the side (we do this sometimes when out, but it might make her gibush even less gibushy by sticking out even more and mumbling strange words into a plastic bag full of bits of veggies. Nerd ).

Actually, this being Israel, the planner made a major "oopsie" and really - the finger should be pointed in that direction. DrMom I don't think you have to feel bad or say anything besides: I only eat food that is under supervision I am familiar with. That puts a positive slant on things and it's the truth. Of course, this doesn't go far towards the warm and fuzzy gibushi feeling. Neither did it when my husband declined a sof shavua shel kef up in Kfar Blum when Tisha BeAv was Motzash. But that's life. You have to do what's right for you and in this country, it's easy enough for planners to make sure the gibush is all inclusive. If they can't get it together for everyone, maybe they shouldn't be planners.

I was speaking about this with another shomer kashrut coworker (there are others), and we decided we don't want to set a precedent of condoning the use of non-teudat-holding food providers for future gibbushim. We will order the kosher airline meal. The organizers should get the message that cutting corners in this way is a fashla.

I confirmed with our HR department, and our company is supposed to have a policy of providing kosher food at company activities if there is even one kosher-keeper among the participants. The policy states that they are not obligated to go with a specific hechsher, so those eating only mehadrin/glatt/bedatz/Rav Yosef/Rav Rubin/Rabbinut Petach Tikvah/etc. may have to resort to airline meals, but kosher food [and legally, in Israel you cannot advertise your business as selling kosher food unless it possesses some sort of teudah ] is supposed to be provided.

They even complained about kosher food at a lunch they threw for me when I left for maternity leave

DrMom, I know you posted this over a year ago, but I just read it now and am wondering...how did your coworkers respond to your airline meal?
