Ok,I'll be honest- I didn't used to like the name that much. Then I got to know two Rozies- one my age, and one a 2.5 yr old. They're both awesome ppl, and now I like the name a lot Smile

That happens with me also. I don't like a name, but then I meet someone with that name and then I like it. I never really cared for the name Yehudis because I knew a Yehudis that I didn't really care for and then my parents named one of my sisters Yehudis and now I like the name Very Happy .

My 12 year old niece is Rosie (named after our grandmother Raizel who was nicknamed Rosie) & she's an adorable & mature young lady. I chose to name my DD Shoshana after my grandmother b/c I don't like Yiddish names & I didn't want to name her Raizel but my bro was perfectly fine with naming his DD Rosie which made our mom very happy!

Its one of those recycled names. When I was a kid, Rose was definitely your great aunt with hair dyed a frightening shade of orange. (She was, of course, married to Max, who smoked a cigar and wore plaid Bermuda shorts pulled up way too high, and a wife beater.) Then, as often happens, it shifted, in this case, probably with Maurice Sendak/Carole King (both Jewish, btw) Really Rosie. Now Rose and Max are the cute little kids on the playground. If you like the name, go for it.

I know someone who has a one year old who did that. Roiza and calls her Rosie. It's sorta cute, if you go for that but I'm wondering when she goes to like a heimish school, if she'll be made fun of or the school would have problems.

My niece lives in a yeshivish community & goes to very yeshivish camps/schools & as far as I know nobody gives her grief about her name.

I love the name Rosie!

It's also probably the closest I could ever get to giving a child a Lord of the Rings name (Rosie Cotton marries Samwise Gamgee) that wouldn't out her as the daughter of a MAJOR geek. Very Happy

Re: names going in cycles like Barbara said, it's soo true. My sister babysits for a family with 3 kids under the age of 6, whose names are Oliver, Simon and FELIX! My 9-year old brother has a Max in his class, and I've seen little girls on the playground named Sadie, Ava, Maisie and Charlotte.

ETA: Elanor isn't too bad. Or Ruby... guess I'd have to stick with hobbit names, and not humans or elves.
