| So I got a new set of linen ($300 - not cheap) and was really looking forward - I washed it before hand but now I can't sleep cuz the thing is soooooooooooo majorly itchy! The lady said it is 100% cotton but other sets I have (cheap - ikea and others from d'rose - none of those were ever close to this). What should I do? It was from a small store and I really feel she should take it back - how can you sell something saying it's a great quality linen when it's a peice of ****. I'm already up over an hour trying to fall asleep, and although it may sound stupid, it isn't- if you tried to sleep on it, you'd understand. (btw the brand is le nappe - looked it up - some chassidish guy in bp is the manufacturer. - should I call them instead?)

Did you not feel it before you bought it? When I bought my linens a few years ago I touched everything in the store and stayed away from the scratchy ones... chose one that felt smooth and have been very comfortable with it. Surprisingly there were very very few smooth-feeling linens in the entire specialty linen store Why on earth people even bother to make sheets out of expensive scratchy material is beyond me.
I would definitely go back to the store and see what they do for you. If they won't exchange it, then try the manufacturer, though I imagine a manufacturer of scratchy linens probably doesn't have anything interesting to offer and your best bet is probably pushing for an exchange in the store. I wouldn't expect a full refund since you already used the sheets.

If you didn't feel the linen beforehand, I don't understand what the issue is. You just looked at it and bought it?

Sometimes good linen needs quite a few washings to get buttery soft. On the other hand, sometimes "good high quality" linen just isn't comfortable no matter what. I bought linen from TJ Max and got amazing stuff many times and once, a high thread count "quality" brand set of sheets was a dud. They have been washed at least 10 times and I still can't have them on my bed. B"H I "only" spent $40 on them... _________________ Liba, mommy to Zlata Tova 5/6/98, Tziporah Faiga 1/12/01, Esther Rivka 7/13/04 and Avraham Chaim 7/2/2006

I felt it but unless you compare side by side it's very hard to feel the quality.
as for the chassidish guy in bp I meant that usually they make really good linen ( I have sets from d'rose which are all amazing quality and got from ben barber- usually the quality is really good and worth the $. ) I meant as oppose to being from some place made in china and it's total junk.

| Sometimes it needs a few washes and dries until it softens up.

I find that buying linen is a bit of a minefield.
I bought a cheapish set before we got married and the quality is amazing, beautiful soft cotton with a high thread count.
Then, after we got married I needed another set so I bought a different set of the same brand, supposedly same kind of fabric etc, actually this set looked more fancy and was a little more expensive but it has never been comfortable. The fabric feels really cheap but you can only really tell once you're trying to sleep in it, you definitely couldn't tell in the shop.
