No, it is a thin piece of elastic, maybe 2 cm wide, that lies flat on your waist. I like my skirts lower, around my pupik as I wear overblouses and oversweaters and it lies flat on my skin, is so comfortable, and as my stomach (like everyone elses) expands when I sit down (redistribution of fat) it expands softly with it, instead of pulling. The skirt is therefore always against my skin, no matter what position I'm in, there are no gaps, and as it isn't a wide piece of elastic there are no rolls either. Maybe it depends on how you are built but for me it is the only kind of comfortable skirt.

So that's what happens when one gets used to elastic. You can't wear anything else again.

This is how I feel about maternity skirts with those wide elastic bands on top.

What will I do when I stop having children? What What What

I think I see. My elastic was much thinner, maybe half a centimeter. I do dislike skirts with gaps, many do it by me when the waist is too big for my waist but not big enough to sit on my hips...

Which is exactly why I like elastic. It's not that wide that it folds, not that narrow that it rolls. And it depends on the cut of the skirts. I make my own so some are wider and some are narrower, but most have a little give at the stomach area although they skim the hips not to add anything there. I've always had a slight swell in the tummy area, since I was twelve or thereabouts and it has to do with build and fat distribution, not with weight, I weighed something like 48 kilo at the time...and an elastic waist skirt which begins at the swell, not only covers but is light and comfortable. That was one of the main reasons I started making my own skirts!

Poeple are sick and tired of powerpoint. Instead of doing a regular powerpoint presentation, go to www.prezi.com and do a prezi. It is much easier than powerpoint and the results are stunning. There are full instructions (it's easy).People will be really impressed.

I used Prezi for a presentation at a conference and had people eating out of my hand afterwards.

If you run an educational institution (which it sounds like you do) you can even download the program for free and use it offline.

Regarding participation, why don't you style yourself as a Rebbitzin (it makes you sound like clergy...) Smile

Very impressed! I like the advice given out here. I'm sure you'll do fine and make a big kiddush Hashem!
If you are in the Ukraine, please pm me what city you're in. I have girls over every two weeks from the seminar Bat Tzion (which is closing Sad ) and some are going back to the Ukraine. If you are in the "right" place I could send them to you for Shabbos.
Hatzlacha raba!

congratulations! sounds like a great opportunity. over the last few years I have spoken at very large international conferences (corporate america). I always did the best by going to ann taylor or nordstroms...they have many different styles of business attire (suits, dresses, etc) that are tznius, conservative and appropriate. They also have very helpful saleswomen. In regards to the actual speech, I always use powerpoint (would add in some funny graphics and even music to keep interest). everyone is different but for me, I would run through the talk in advance many times in front of others to get their feedback. I remember when I took a public speaking class, we were videotaped so that we can review it after and see for ourselves if there was anything we would want to modify. never tried it for myself but may help if you're nervous.

chances are you are being asked to speak because you are an expert at what you do! it becomes easy to talk about things you are comfortable with and know a lot about. have fun with it! if you have any other questions, feel free to message me. good luck

Thank you, everyone, for your encouragement and advice!

Chossidmom, I have two former students at Bat Tzion (One is graduating this year.) I didn't know it was closing. I'm pretty sure anyone from Bat Tzion who'd be coming back to my city is very familiar with the Jewish community here...

Tovas, I don't think we have those stores around here... but thank you for the rest of your useful advice.

Prezi is really impressive, but I was just at a conference where two people used it - the first had technical difficulties. The second looked amazing, but senior people around me were kind of rolling their eyes - in my field, it's lame to be cool, if you know what I mean. You know your audience best, but sometimes it's just best to do what everyone else is doing.

Absolutely do many run-thrus for your co-workers, your family, yourself in your hotel room the night before... The best way not to be nervous is to know that you know your talk thoroughly and know exactly what you want to say at every point.

Create your slides, and then take almost everything off them. Slides with too much content are the first sign of an amateur (I'm talking to myself Smile).

Good luck, and have fun!

It's coming closer.....

I have a question: I planned on using PowerPoint slides mostly of photographs, without text, as if I were doing a video clip of my topic. For example, when talking about alcoholism or the medical health service, I put in pictures that illustrate the issue. When I google Powerpoint, I see most people use it more for text, to list the main points of their speech. If I use Powerpoint mostly for photos, will it come off as unprofessional?

Au contraire! A picture speaks for thousand words (or something like that)...
Most common mistakes people make when preparing Powerpoint is they cram the slides with texts.

I think just pictures would be fine, but I'll make sure to put titles for each slide pages.
If using more than one photos per slide, I would recommend adding captions.
