Do you go stretchies all the way? Leggings and bodysuits? Cute outfits? Would you keep your newborn completely covered in the summer or summery clothing?

In the summer- stretchies, leggings and t shirt/Onesie, or dresses. At home the ac is always on, so long sleeves/pants. Outside in the heat I feel its usually too hot for that. But I am super careful about not exposing skin to direct sunlight during midday.

I switched off between nicer stuff and onesies.
DS was born in the summer and it was HOT. He regularly was outside with only a diaper (yes, as a NEWborn-it was that hot) and in the house it depended on if the air conditioning was on.
So I'm all for summery clothing for a summery environment, you don't need to overheat the poor kid, just make sure they are not losing heat (ie, when its 100F outside, keep them naked, when its 75-dress in light clothing)

Yes, this. Keep a newborn in the shade.

I did just onesies in the heat- no need for anything more. But like others said, keep the baby out of the sun. IIRC, you can't put sunblock on a baby that young.

I really hate seeing newborn girls in sleeveless dresses and no socks (!) at chasunah halls. BRRRR! At least bring a warm blanket!

My dd pretty much wore velour stretchies the first few months because she was born in January. In the summer, I would still put on cotton stretchies because it's cool in the house. Outside, probably short sleeves and long pants. I like babies in one piece outfits, I find it most convenient. (And maybe a teeny weeny bit because I want them to stay babies for as long as possible. DD wore only stretchies until at least 6 months Embarassed .)

I bought some cute rompers for my baby boy but I'm finding that it's just too hot for anything more than a onesie even though they're not as cute. If I take my baby for a walk in the stroller I usually pull some light pants (and socks) over the onesie just in case the sun hits him.

Newborn newborn? Long sleeved cotton stretchies around the air conditioned house.
If you're planning on going out, one or two cotton rompers. Or just a cotton onsie. Keep blankets nearby and keep baby out of the sun.

my daughter wears sleeveless dresses and no socks on shabbos, but I always bring a nice white shrug along if we go to shul or are invited somewhere and it's chilly.

For a Real newborn I only dress in Stretchies - for sure until they can support themselves.
I always have a few fun outfits for dressing up but otherwise stretchies are the most comfy for the baby, easiest to clean and change often, cheap, and I find until babies can support themselves outfits don't lay right.

Out in the heat, I would dress a newborn in just a onesie and drape a blanket over the canopy (not directly ON the baby, just as a sunshade) or walk only in the shade so s/he didn't sit in direct sunlight. I remember once I left my newborn in a sunny spot during the summer, with no blanket and in literally five minutes she looked like a tomato. Boy did I freak out. But as soon as I moved her into the shade she was fine. Infants overheat much faster than older kids, and kids overheat faster than adults too.

In air conditioning I would just make sure to have extra layers like a hoodie, cardigan, leggings and blanket and adjust the layers according to the temperature.

Until he was 3 weeks old he wore basically stretchis, sleepsuits, and onesies.
Then we came back to the states and it was HOT! I dressed him in shorts and thsirts, onesies, and if it was cooler he had long sleeves, long trousers and a jacket.

He was always in the shade!

I love dressing babies though so I bought such cute outfits, my landlord for example still dresses her ds in stretchies/one piece sometimes. Its more of a BP style I think, and Im not crazy over it (jmho)

If it's a real tiny newborns then it's a cotton stretchie. Once he/she gets a little fuller and bigger it can be a very delicate age appropriate outfit.

Right now for going out: a onesie (short sleeve) and very lightweight cover (patterned flat cloth diaper).

For in the house: onesie or nothing...it's too d*** hot!

onsies- either short or long sleeves
and regular cotton stretchies.
I never like to see babies that are all dressed up. It is so uncomfortable! (then again, I also don't like to be dressed up ever..)
