Inappropriate cheer?

In need of opinions here. DD, age 5 came home from camp singing the following:

"Hey you, over there, get up and do a cheer
We're hot, we'll show 'em what we got
We're hot, we'll show 'em what we got
Whip it up... whip it up,
for camp <camp>"

DH and I were like Shocked

Do you think this is normal? Appropriate?? Oddly enough, the camp is run by a girl who was described as extremely aidel and went to the best seminary. I feel that this is the opposite of aidel.

Reality check -- are we oversensitive because we're BT? All opinions welcome! Thanks!

thinking back to camp about some of the cheers we sang- boy , were some inappropriate."my back is aching, my belt too tight, my hips are shaking from left to right...."

I've been surprised by camp cheers myself. I think the counselors may be sheltered and have no idea what they are saying. Looking back to my (not-frum but very wholesome) upbringing, we frequently were clueless about some things which might be considered inappropriate to people with more cultural context.

I think it depends on the camp. In a frum setting of course it is inappropriate. Very much so. I would be shocked and appalled if dd came home with this. But I grew up kosher and shomer shabbos, going to more modern coed camps, and this was sort of par for the course. We did cheers to radio songs and all, and so sometimes the wording was pretty secular. But of course we were wearing off the shoulder flashdance style tee shirts that said things like "hot stuff" on them so there was no great discrepancy.....

To be DLKZ, the counselor may not know the other meaning of hot other than hot as in "it's very hot today."

I think the whip it up part is much more inappropriate than the we're hot. same amother as 8:48.

OK, now I'm clueless. What does "whip it up" mean to you? I would take it to mean "generate enthusiasm."

I took "hot" in this context to mean "we're on fire," in terms of winning a sporting match or being number one at something. "Whip it up" I thought meant "get excited for camp."

I agree that the people in the camp don't realize that it could have an inappropriate meaning. When I was in camp, we also had that cheer from 9:48, and I didn't know what it means. I thought it was like an exercise, aching from doing sports, belt is tight from eating, hips shaking in a dance, didn't realize that it could mean something else.

I think overall it can be explained very innocently, "hot" is often used in a very tame context as in a "hot deal" ie, something very good and popular and current. But somehow taken in context with "showing them what we've got" (which also can very simply be "we've got what it takes to win" so to speak), and yet the two together just sort of naturally bring the mind toward the other meanings of 'hot' and 'showing them what we've got'..... plus the 'whip it up', it all just has a very trashy sort of sound. I am so sure it was chosen totally innocently though, and certainly no one would expect a camp cheer to undergo this level of in depth analysis.... Laughing

I'm sure the counselors/campers have no idea that to some of us who are less sheltered, the cheer sounds downright trashy.
some of the phrases I've come across in some very respectable frum publications fall into that category as well. I even brought one to the attention of one of the editors and she had no idea that the phrase had the street meaning it has.
I guess I need to take my mind out of the gutter, but thats another story

back to the cheer...
I'd leave it alone. chances are it will not cause anyone any damage

The only reason I think of "whipping" any differently is because of Rihannas S&M song Laughing

If I clean my mind and think like an innocent seminary graduate, 18 year old girl, then I don't see anything wrong with this song.

Since you know more , you are married, then you think of it much more than just a cheer.

hot means awesome here.

I'm more bothered by camp cheers that put down the other bunks.

This thread is funny timing for me because just on Friday I was listening to the radio and recognized one of our camp cheers. It was plagiarised from "Ice Ice Baby."
And it wasn't the only one. "We will Rock You" comes to mind.
Definitely the most offensive one I encountered was the one that included the words "retarded" and "institute". I can't even bring myself to write it. Even then I couldn't believe that girls would sing that.
