My dh's cousin is Israeli. She is traditional or lite MO I guess depending on moment, if you see what I mean.

She came to me in hysterics that she met a boy in an airport, and she thought it was a love at first sight and him too, he proposed to her. But then apparently he changed his mind. She tells me the Israeli law allows her sue and get 300 000 nis for this.

Is it true? do I tell her I support her idea to go to the police, or is it nutzzzzz??

Unless there was any dating and serious planning in between the airport meeting and the breaking off of the "proposal," there has been no harm here whatsoever except to pride, and pride isn't worth 300,000 NIS. If there was nothing but the meeting in the airport it sounds like the boy came around to his senses that the proposal was nuts and your husband's cousin has learned a valuable life lesson.

I'm going to stop there.

She mentioned a "Beinish" law or judge about that?
I didn't understand well.

It's not about pride to her, she just reaaaaally wants to get married and have kids, and she thought finally she had found. It's very sad.

The smart thing to do would be to forget this guy, forget suing for NIS 300k, and focus her energies on meeting someone in a more conventional way.

Yes, she wants to get married (desperately, it would appear), but marrying someone you meet for 10 minutes in an airport is not sane. Proposing to someone you've known for 10 minutes is not sane either. Looks like they both dodged bullets. Or they were meant for each other!

Furthermore, what exactly would the point be in suing this guy? She would just be known as "the hysterical lady who sued the unstable guy who proposed to her in the airport". Not exactly a jewel in the crown of a shidduch resume.

It is highly not normal behavior, and she needs therapy. I don't mean that as an insult. But she really needs therapy ASAP, before her desperation leads her to do something with bad consequences.

And also because she wants to get married, and nothing drives men away like desperation.

Anyway. People can sue for a broken engagement if they spent lots of money. Like, if the hall was lined up, and the band, etc, and the person who broke the engagement left the other with a 150,000 shekel bill for a wedding that didn't happen - then you can sue, IIRC. But in a situation like you describe, it would be a waste of time, and like previous posters said, would probably give her a bad name and just make things harder.

Totally agree with the previous two posters. Her behavior is not normal and she may just need emotional support to recover from the disappointment and develop better coping mechanisms. I wish her well.
