I'm wondering how to write a thank you card for a check.

I'm writing thank you cards for my wedding. I know for a gift I can write thank you for the toaster it's very useful yadda yadda yadda.

For a check..

I have people who gave me 18 dollar checks and people who gave me 1,200 dollar checks is there a way to indicate that I'm more thankful.. I mean you don't write thank you for the $1,200 check.

You just write thank you for the gift? or you do you write thank you for the check? or do you write thank you for the big fat lump of cash?

etc etc.

Thanx for any advice.

I was taught to mention what I was going to buy with the money. So for example-"thank you for the money. DH and I are going to use it to purchase a new sofa. It will look so nice in our living room. We hope you'll be able to come and see it soon." Obviously, that's not always appropriate, but you get the idea.

"Thank you so much for your generous gift. It is sure to be useful as we begin our married life. We appreciate your remembering us at this special time and hope to celebrate many more simchas together."

For large gifts, substitute "very generous gift."

For tremendous gifts: "extraordinary generosity."

And mazal tov on your wedding!

Dear Mr and Mrs So and So,

Thank you so very much for the generous and thoughtful gift. As a young couple getting started in life there are so many expenses and your present will truly help us. I very much appreciate the effort you made to enhance our simcha and may we only share in joyful occations together in the future.

wishing you all the very best,

sincerely

I think yes, write it for both. It's generous of anyone to give you a gift, each according to their means. However, since larger gifts tend to come from people who have more of a relationship, you could also write a more personal letter to those. I mean, I'm assuming your neighbor didn't give you $1,200, it must have been a relative...

Make sure to write "we" all the time instead of I, even though you're the one stuck writing the cards. Wink

ohright. didnt realize that one.

actually my husband and I had a hilarious time writing thank you notes. he helped because it was so much fun. we sat there writing notes to pple who gave us frilly aprons, doilies, used serving dishes, items that had 99 cents stickers stuck to the bottom and for each one we wrote a real nice thank you card.

also the problem with checks is that sometimes it doesnt come with a note so you need to do extensive research to figure out who sent the check. one check we could not figure out for the life of us so we sent a generic thank you to a trust fund. a few weeks later my father got a call from a friend of his saying hes sorry he forgot to include a note but he appreciates our card anyway. Very Happy
