I actually also heard the same story about a month ago with the same exact details that the op mentioned.

I heard the story originally from someone in Canada (tosh) and it was 16 years that this couple waited for children.

How funny is this??? five minutes after I posted in this thread, my friend from Elad (that's the city it supposedly happened in) called me. talk about hashgacha! LOL! She also heard about it, with a different name than I did, and no one in Elad has been able to verify the story...

Hi! OP here...
My latest updates:
I've heard a few versions with diff names and locations...though nobody knew to tell me for sure that it happened.
One of my friends was just by Professor Dor last week, one of the major IVF specialists here in Israel and he denied that it happened, cause the medical world would've heard of it right away and there was no mention whatsoever in the secular media, TV,radio, internet and papers. such a story would never have been able to be missed by the media.

Harav Shtern from Bnei Brak, whose name was connected to the story, went out to tell pple that its definitely NOT true, just a horrible rumor.

so it seems that a rumor it was and is, but the outcome of it is just plain horrible and has caused much heartache to pple that use medical intervention for fertility..and unnecessary knowledge for many pple in this delicate private subject....

I wouldnt be surprised if it was started by some of the ppl influenced by Rabbi Katz's fiery drasha a few months ago. But I have no idea if they did.

In this theoretical case (since it was just a rumor), I don't think the big tragedy would be that the children are black! That's kind of shallow and narrow minded.

It's that their color would very obviously reveal the horrifying fact that they are NOT the children of that couple, that the mother carried genes that were not hers...and after waiting for so long for children, too. It would be just as horrible if the children were fair skinned but there was a gene mix-up, except that no one might ever know, in that situation...

I think we should give people a little credit. I don't think the horrifying factor was the skin color. I know of frum people who have adopted and raised black children as their own. Guys, frum society doesn't have to be as terrible as you think it is! Laughing

Just to update all of you, I just found out again, and now for sure, that this rumor is just a rumor!

dh spoke to a dayan who sits in the Beis Din with Harav Moshe Shaul Klein who is burning mad at this crazy rumor and seems they now know that it is one of the followers of Rabbi Katz (u were right, Mama Bear!) who spread this horrible rumor.
Rav Moshe Shaul Klein DID come to America though not to "deal with the halachic matters of this couple" but to attend a major dinner of Bonei Olam where he also spoke against the shitta of Rabbi Katz.

Sorry for making U all crazy!!!

I had a feeling it was someone who was out to undermine bonei olam, as they mixed bonei olam's name into it. Unfortuantely even though it's a rumor, it definitely did a lot of damage; people are freaking out left and right, especially ppl who are undergoing IF treatment or ppl who are even pg after IF treatment. People will be really scared and suspicious to do IVF or any other IF treatment now, and ppl will be wary of bonei olam. there's no undoing the damage of this rumor. The person who originally started it will have to answer after 120 for his actions. This is really awful.

I agree, the damage is done....wow how far can pple get???

Let's hope that with time things will quiet down.....
