We learned in navi I think in Yeshaya that one of the reasons for the churban was because the women were doing not tznius things and one of the examples were that they wore perfumes - I think the scent was in their heels and when men passed they would stamp their feet to let out the smell. Other examples were that a short girl would walk in between 2 tall girls or the opposite way around. Another example was that they put unnatural coloring's on their face - think eye shadow.

This is a little fuzzy to me because I learned it so many years ago but maybe someone who knows it better could write it clearer?

There are people who sometimes reek of perfume and everybody around it could smell it - I could understand that that is assur. When I put on perfume I spray once and I doubt people passing me on the street could smell it.

I teach kallahs to limit it when they are niddah.
Just like there is makeup and there is MAKEUP, there is perfume and there is PERFUME!
I think you need to use your sechel on this one.
I remember there was a guy when I was little who would pass me every day on the way to the bus, and you could smell the cologne lingering 20 seconds later. THAT IMHO would be an inappropriate use of perfume.

This is such a turn off to hear wrong statements like that.
I'm willing to believe someone assured it somewhere, but such bold statements are just ridiculous...

Unless one wears perfume or make up only to seduce one's husband, and not to office, not to smachos, etc, I don't see either why it would be considered forbidden during nidda.

Let's just say, if strong make up and perfume are forbidden, then many charedi older rebbetzins are in danger!

I'm pretty sure it is assur. a man should not smell his wife's perfume when she is a nidda & any man should not smell another woman's perfume.

I dont know of it being assur but have heard of those with sensitivities to the spirit of all laws liken heavy perfume to wearing red, but imho I hate when women wear too much perfume - it makes me gag and interferes with me breathing fresh air.\\

Light perfume idk, would that make scented soap and shampoo assur too? Please dont get any ideas to start a new fad of unscented only.

yes it's assur if it can be smelled by strangers three feet away. ever walk by a women who reeks like a french bath?? yeah, well that should be just commen sense wrong.
but to wear a normal amount that one can only smell if they get close to you, is ok.... theory is, if they can smell it on you, then they shouldn't be that close to you in the first place....

I find it funny that everyone says that when a person overdoes it with the perfume, it's assur because that's when it might attract. To me, it's such a turn off, the strong smelling perfumes, it's so much more attractive when it's subtle.

ITA. The "tease" of a small hint of a scent that makes you want to come closer, or something so subliminal that you might not even be aware why someone gives off an alluring vibe, is much more powerful than when someone walks into the room and you can say, "Oh. I guess she's wearing Chanel No. 5 today."

My BY sem principle always smelled strongly of sweet perfume. I always thought it was a little strange because I'd assumed it wasn't tznius as perfume can contain pheromones, and is mainly used to attract men...anyway, go figure...

I seriously can not believe this thread.

Everything is assur.

Lets all just live in bubbles, all of the time.

Wow.

Personally I wear perfume everyday. I was taught that if you wear it everyday and not just on special occasions you can wear it during niddah.

Oh and if someone standing across the room from you can smell it, I don't think its become an issue of being assuer because thats nauseating.

I don't know why it's a surprise to some people that it's assur, I mean, we're not allowed to flaunt ourselves in front of men in any other way...

Perfume attracts men. Why would you want to walk around saying 'look at me', if you have a DH?

I am the amother that is surprised.
Personally I wear perfume that I like and I wear it so that I smell nice. My husband does not even notice perfume. I wear it for me and nobody else.

We learned that the only perfume that's ossur is musk. Scents like lemon or flowers are fine.

Not everyone has a DH. So maybe it should only be assur once married, like a covering your hair kinda deal. According to your logic at least.
