If you want help you might want to post some more info. Like where is this song from..what are some more words...
I think I know of a song that sounds familiar but those are not the exact first words.

In a village forest deep
On a path so very steep
From a window not too high
Children gaze into the sky
Dark brown eyes attracting all
And a nose so very small

Thanks everyone

ok interesting. I know of a song with the same idea but different wording. (it's about the jewish kid being hid with non jewish children during the holocaust, right?) do you want it?

sweet red lips you'd love to kiss
curly hair that she would miss

his mother held him very tight
here she brought him late one night
how she kissed him
how she criedd
and gently pressed him to her side

here my child is where you'll stay
remember these last words I say
I must leave you, I must go
they'll take good care of you I know

with the other children play
respect the elders and obey
no yiddishe word, no jewish song
but know in your heart where you belong

she promised him a world of treats
but he held on to her feet
crying loudly no,no,no
mother please you must not go

I can't remain here all alone
you know well this is no home
let's returen to our place
in his arms she dug his face

all night long she rocked the boy
singing songs he'd once enjoyed
soon the child was sleeping sound
there she laid him on the ground

with swollen eyes all burning, red
she kissed him on his curly head
one last kiss so full of fright
and off she stumbled through the night

the air was cold, the wind was wild
she kept repeating oh my child
please forgive me, understand
you're better off in strangers hands

the boy awakes he's all alone
his heart no longer but a stone
they call him by a different name
he cannot feel, he's so ashamed

like moshe's mother very brave
she left her son that he be saved
her eyes are never dry again,
she wonders will they meet and when

there are different variations, with some minor wording differences, but this is the one I remembered by heart
I only continued from where amother before left off

In a village far away
in a town that's bent and gray
Through a glass with eyes so wide
children peer and gaze outside

boys with flaxen heads of gold
and girls with braids of marigold
and there amongst them but not quite
two dark eyes so deep so bright

two dark eyes so deep and warm
a nose of such a perfect form
two sweet lips beyond compare
strong and curly thick black hair

here a mother full of fright
brought her only child late one night
how she kissed her how she cried
and gently pressed her to her side

Here my child is where you'll stay
listen and do what they say
I must leave you I must go
They'll take good care of you I know

With the other children play
be polite dont disobey
Don't speak a jewish word or song
no more to jews do you belong

his arms around his mother flew
Oh mama let me go with you
mama dont leave me here alon
mama I beg you not to go

She kissed his face his swollen eyes
but still this would not stop his cries
full of worry fear and fright
out she starts into the night

the night is cold the wind is wild
and a voice is calling oh my child
I left you in a strangers hand
what else can I do please understand

no one hears her lonely fate
and outside it is dark and late
the night is cold the wind is wild
please hashem protect my child
