It's a good question...female bosses are more understanding, but can also be harder to work for!

My experience has been that my female boss was the biggest *****. The men I worked for were more normal.

The women I have worked for have been much more difficult than the man I worked for. He let me do my own thing, trusted me that I knew what I was doing, but was always available for questions, advice, and sources (yes, I was a high school teacher).
The women tended to be much more overbearing and distrustful.
Actually I once worked for my mother, now that was easy, but it�s very possible that other employees of hers didn�t find her so easy...
It�s my brother�s theory. Women were always kept down in society, so now that they are given equal opportunities, they a) take out their anger on their underlings or b) feel they have to prove themselves, so drive their underlings crazy so that they will help them project a professional image.
The same is true for black people. My brother says that the very worst bureaucracy officials to deal with are black women. Two sets of complexes!

I've definitely enjoyed working for male bosses a lot more than female ones. All my female bosses liked to micromanage and were always watching me, while the male bosses I've had were just content with the work being finished on time.
