The underneath back part of my synthetic always gets terribly snarled when I wear it. It catches on my necklace clasp, which seems to be part of the problem, but not the whole problem, as it happens even when I'm not wearing a necklace. My sheitel macher friend suggested using Infusium 23, which makes the sheitel nice when I first put it on, but still gets snarled. Leave-in conditioner also does not work by the end of a few hours.

Thanks!

Right. The "heat resistant" ones are the good kind, with the best fiber. They don't tangle.

I found that one day or another, even the heat resistants do knot and unless you brush like crazy and it cuts the hair, it stays so.

Hmm....Interesting b/c the main one I wear is "heat resistant" and also only a few months old (and I only wear if on Shabbos morning and maybe once or twice a month, if that). This seems to happen to all of mine.....

Maybe it's just how it is!

Thanks for the input.

It is unfortunately a very common problem with synthetic wigs, no matter what fiber is used.
My suggestion is to soak it in a mixture of nice warm water and a large quantity of conditionner ( any good brand). Let sit overnight.
The next day, rinse well and brush from bottom to top, gently but firmly.
Let me know if that helps..

OP- at least yours is synthetic!

It can happen a little bit with curly, but if you get a nice curly one it doesn't happen much. I have a curly real hair sheital that barely tangles and it's almost ringlet curly. I had a slightly curly, more wavy sheital that tangled the second I put it on. I have a friend who got a curly one from the same company and doesn't have any tangling problems, but got a straight one from them and it tangles as bad as my curly one. I was told it's just bad hair. Unfortunately my one with nice hair is on a bad cap and the one with the bad hair is on a nice cap. Go figure.

I know that in am bring back a dead thread but I had to write a reply.
I only wear synthetic wigs and was told years ago not to use hair conditioner on them. I was told to only use liquid fabric softener. I have not had a problem with tangles since.

Wow--fabric softener?! That's amazing. Do you soak your sheitel in it like you would conditioner? Do you bother w. shampoo or you just use the softener?!

Off to buy fabric softener!
