I asked my friend why are some people very lucky in life, and why are others so unlucky? don't say that we all have bad luck etc, because there ARE strong differences, some have mostly good things happening, while some people have lives of complete suffering and hardship.

she said to me the answer is this, some people are young souls, I.e they have not been here before, (the lucky ones), while the second group are old souls, so while a person may be a beautiful person here and now, and a person who possessed good qualities in their previous lifetime, they are however atoning for some sins in the previous lifetime so all debts will be cleared here in order to go straight to heaven. is that true?

I hope not.

Why add guilt to suffering? What horrible things must have I done in a previous life that I suffer so much in this one?

I don't know about being fixed for sins a person has done. I do know that sometimes there is still trauma from a previous life experience that was never processed properly, that is carried into this life and is still causing pain. A person can work through the traumatic issues from the previous life and bring healing and growth to their neshama. I had a personal experience, after my first's birth, I had severe ppd. After working through my strong feelings with EFT, the energy work helped me realize a past life experience where I lost my baby in the Holocaust. The memory was literally coming back to haunt me, and after I healed the traumatic experience with EFT, the constant ppd went away.
I know this will be way to "woo-woo" and "out there" for some to handle, but it is what it is, and I can't deny what I experienced.
About the "young" soul, that I don't know. I thought all souls are "old" nowadays.

it's always difficult to answer why things happen but yes Judaism does believe that souls can come down a second time, and some of us have been here before. however it's not just to "atone for sins", but always with the purpose of elevating them even higher, so that they can become even better, because G-d sees our potential much better than we do ourselves.

Just today my husband looked at me and said, "I guess we did something wrong in our past lives to warrant coming back as horses!"

I said, "I think we came back like the horse's backside!"

All kidding aside, I understand that most neshamas in this dor are mitakan'ing some imperfection from past lives. But I like how you turn it to a positive, amother. Your words are like cube of sugar for this ole horse.

Can u pm me about eft (I cant pm u from my phone). Ive been looking into it, but im not convinced enough to put it into practice. Is there a clear and measurable difference in the benefit? Do I have to do a ton of reading to understand it?

Thank you!
