Any Brits celebrating?

it definately makes me proud to be british!! she's been on the throne for 60 years!! may she have many more years!!

Just a shame about weather, back to 13C and drizzling all day.
I actually felt sorry for her having to stand up for a long time on the barge.
Methinks she'll be so relieved once the long weekend is done and over.

Meanwhile our "Jewbilee" kiddush and seuda shlishi went well,
though it's too cold for a pitcher of Pimm's. Our children's service had
"kings and queens" quiz--both Jewish and English.

Definitely grateful for an extra bank holiday.

I celebrated by buying myself a mug from John Lewis that says 'KEEP CALM AND REIGN ON' - a knock-off of the KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON posters.

I already have a KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON mug and a NOW PANIC AND FREAK OUT mug. (I collect mugs)

But, considering the weather, perhaps it should have said KEEP CALM AND RAIN ON. Rolling Eyes

my friend wrote her a new hymn and sent it to her and got a lovely reply. my mother was reminding me that I met her when I was little- I was about 6 and all the members of the law society were allowed as many tickets as they wanted and my grandfather got enough for us all. it was the first time I saw him in his robes as well.

I also remember the silver jubilee being celebrated 40 years ago, because I was a brownie and scouting in canada and commonwealth countries was very queen based then.

I am not particularly supportive of our connection to the monarchy, but I do think elizabeth is a pretty spectacular queen. if they could skip the succession altogether and head straight for william, I would be more into the whole thing, but even so, its not like the queen is really anything more than a symbol in canada. she has no real bearing on our lives here. even the governor general, her representative in canada, is largely a political honour. they have very little actual power (as it should be.)

anyways, shkoyach to her. may she have a long life and may her progeny be deserving of the honour they are born to.

DS wore his british flag socks (totally not bought for the jubilee rather to be patriotic in a foreign country lol) and we watched the pageant live! I loved it!
Shame about the rain but I had to laugh when drops started splattering the cameras! Laughing

so british! Poor queen was cold!

My aunt posted a tweet that said:
"Nothing says Britain like a brass band on a barge sailing down the Thames in the pouring rain!"

I watched some on the net (BBC site) and enjoyed it. Great to see all those boats on teh Thames.
And Land of Hope and Glory sang as teh rain poured down their faces Smile

Such a British moment.
Hope the Queen went home and had some nice hot cocoa to warm up (after taking off that elegant white suit). She must have been freezing !
My dh(American) just does not get it and kept doing fake British accents and say "oh Marvellous" all evening. Oh well - all the more Marmite for me

I would have loved to go the river pageant, but the weather....

Also, that's the time my boys come home, so really wouldn't have worked.

Unfortunately, my daydreams about being skinny are always being interrrupted by the sound of my own chewing.

It's so funny - I've barely been back to England since I left twenty years ago - only five times. But looking at all the pictures on the Net made me feel sooooo homesick. I felt such a wave of nostalgia, even though my mum tells me I'd barely recognise England anymore and in fact when I looked up the Google maps of where I spent the first 21 years of my life, everything had changed so much that it looked like a foreign country.

The thought of the Jubilee parties and the excitement of the celebrations and that wonderful atmosphere that I can only imagine reminded me of the Silver Jubilee. I was also in the Brownies then and we did a Silver Jubilee pageant. I think my mum still has the Silver Jubilee mug that I got somewhere. And I also remembered the night before Charles and Diana got married, when we went up to London to see the royal fireworks and could only get back to a very distant railway station and spent about two hours walking home in the middle of the night.

As they say, those were the days and the pictures of the current Jubilee celebrations brought it all back to me. Would have loved to have been there.

My kids dont' understand it at all. They just about know who the Queen is, though they all know William and Kate. And as for the Queen and Prince Phillip, they just remind me of my parents more and more. Was teasing my Dad about Prince Phillip - I think they both have a similar sense of humour, and they are close to each other in age bli ayin hara ....

Oh dear. Prince Philip admitted to a hospital for some kind of infection...
It ain't easy being Royal, standing through the parade in the cold weather.

Shame he's more known for gaffe and politically incorrect comments, but he has done actually so many things to benefit the Anglo-Jewish community (aside from being the original stay-at-home-dad).

Ma'amite--I'm afraid it won't be kosher, as the kosher marmite is imported from S.Africa.

I've been thinking about the Queen attending the concert tonight on her own. It must be hard for her. I hope she enjoys it and that he's back home soon. No, it can't always be easy being royal but she looked beautiful and was a good sport yesterday standing throughout the boat ride waiving to the public. I sure hope she didn't catch a cold in that weather, she looked positively freezing!

Prince Philip has a knack for saying idiotic, offensive things, but really he's just continuing the tradition of madness.

The Queen is unbelievable.

I hope she enjoyed at least some of it.

I've been following the celebrations too... (I grew up in Canada.. Canadians love the Queen)

The concert looked like so much fun... and of course, watching Kate's fashion choices.
