I'm not sure what exactly I'm looking for, but perhaps someone can direct me. Is there some kind of therapy to help someone who'se 'slow' become quicker? Slow, not stupid. Someone who takes long doing things, not that she doesn't understand and doesn't get things.
I was having a conversation with one of my sisters and she was saying how she always struggles in school, and in general, because she takes long getting things done. She likes to really get every detail, every question...in school when the teacher gives work, she slowly reads the problem, thoroughly understands it before answering, but other girls are done before she's even finished writing. When she reads books, she likes to re-read occasionally, not because she lost her train of thought- I verified that with her, it's not a concentration issue, it's just that her brain works slower. Some people's brains fly at 1000 miles an hour, the con to that being they can be much more 'makif', not taking things in, etc, but for her, she ends up feeling like she's stupid and it's affecting her. I told her that she shouldn't feel like something's wrong with her, it's not a focus/attention issue, she gets good marks, she's just more thorough, and her brain, yes, works slower, but slower is not stupid. But at the same time, if there is something that can help her 'speed up' that would still be good. Is there something for her to do?

Yes, and it's cheap! Go to big fish games and buy a few time management games, esp farm frenzy and games like that. But, most people who have 'slow brains' hate those games. LOL However, they do notice the difference.

I have two family members like this, and they are what I call, meticulous thinkers. But being meticulous is time consuming and slows a person down (and isn't always necessary). It's a wonderful gift, if you ask me, but I do understand it's limitations as well (mostly time related!)

Is it possible that she is a kinesthetic thinker? It's a different way of processing information.

Chani8, that sounds interesting, can you explain more about how this game helps? And what is a kimesthetic thinker? Would love to find it more about that too.

What I am referring to is increasing processing speed.

http://www.southcountychildandfamily.com/resources/school/processing-speed.html

Quote:
Processing Speed is a measure of how quickly and efficiently an individual can perform a cognitive task. It reflects the speed at which an individual takes in information, processes it, and then shows the results of this processing. Slow (or fast) processing may be the result of intake, internal processing, or output capacities. For example, children with slow processing speed on written copying tasks may be slow in seeing what they need to copy, figuring out how to do it, and then writing it down.

Processing Speed also reflects the ability to fluently and automatically perform cognitive tasks, especially when under pressure to maintain focus, attention, and concentration. Processing speed shows a strong and consistent relationship with the development of reading and math achievement. It is involved anytime a test has time constraints that may affect the overall performance. A weakness in the speed of processing routine information may make the task of comprehending novel information more time-consuming and difficult. Children with slow processing speed may experience difficulty in work completion, taking notes, finishing tasks and tests in a timely fashion, and reading and writing efficiency.

A more expensive and thorough brain training program is at www.lumosity.com.

The Amazing Brain Train is a good Big Fish game, also. And Farm Frenzy.

A really good Big Fish game is Shop-N-Spree because it combines language, memory, time, and visuals.
