I will be in Lakewood for Shavuos and the following Shabbos. I'd like to do some clothes shopping for myself on the Friday in between.

What stores do you recommend in Lakewood for women's clothing (upper middle aged woman, size 14-16, classic but up-to-date, not overly trendy, not super casual) that is likely to be open that Friday?

I prefer a place I can just walk into, not somebody's home.

Thanks.

Thanks so much. If I do go off my eating plan while there, though it will be for soft serve ice cream (I think there's a place on 7th near Madison behind the Capital Hotel, no?).

We don't have cholov yisroel soft serve ice cream here in Chicago (pretty much the only thing of that sort we're missing), so thats a sure thing for any trip to NY/NJ.

Yes-that's called Yismach Yisrael. Even though bagel nosh has sugar free fat free soft serve yougurt and low fat fro yos-where you add a few toppings into the ice cream (my fav is blueberries, strawberries, and granola) And then if you still want to watch what you eat you can get an egg white omelet!! YUM

Thanks everyone. I'm making my lists of where to go now. Any other clothing store suggestions?

Now that I've returned, I'm reporting back.

I was very successful at Fashion Stop (and they were very nice to deal with it).

I never got to European Finesse, but I did go to Anna Meyer (down on Cedarbridge). They had lovely things, but mostly dressier than I was looking for now. I'd definitely go back there though another time.

And I took my GC out for ice cream to Yismach Yisroel -- more for me than for them -- that's just about the only thing we're missing in Chicago.

I'm reopening this thread as I will once again be in Lakewood for Shavuos and want to do some shopping.

Same info as in 1st post except that this time I am looking for 2 dressier items:
something for GS's bar mitzvah
something for niece's chasunah (not a gown)

Any places to consider other than those mentioned above.

Also, I will be shopping on Friday, Erev Shabbos before Shavuos, will the stores be open?

Brooklyn Southwest in Shoprite Plaza has everything you need!
Laurel Boutique on Kennedy and Clifton is also great
Daniellas on Kennedy near Glatt Bite and Hosiery Plus

If anyone's interested in buying a $50 gift certificate to Fashion Forward off me, I'd love to get rid of it (would sell for $40 or so). It might be too "young" of a place for you though.

I second Daniella's for shopping, I've done well there and she is low pressure and friendly. I also second Yismach Yisrael for their ice cream - best and cheapest in town.

Just to second what was said already.

I'm the same age range as you, I think. You can find very dressy things in Fashion Stop too. Not just dressy everyday things. Daniellas specializes in dressier clothing but for a younger age, but you may find.

Also try Girls on Glenn in Westgate. Again they cater to a younger crowd. But you may find some appropriate dressier tops there. They have evening hours if that'll work the night you arrive (just so you have more time, because Friday is a short day.)

Thanks. Evening before won't work -- I won't get in to Lakewood until after 9:00 pm.

Girls on Glenn and Brooklyn SW are probably open until 10:00. But that's probably not so realistic as soon as you arrive.

From your age and taste description, I'd think you'll do the best in Fashion Stop.

Hatlocho and enjoy.

As long as I see you reading now - do you know of any other forum for frum ladies that's more sheltered than this one.

(Others - no bashing me please)

Sorry, I don't, but I do understand why you're asking. Personally, I stay away from any threads here that I am not comfortable with.

I doubt there is any such thing as most of the people who would want one aren't on the web (either no access or only using for business or very highly filtered).

If you do find something, let me know.

Thank you very much for answering me.

I am sometimes bored at work and come here, but B"H don't have the internet at home as this type of stuff would be a real challenge for me.

I recently spoke to someone who thought there are maybe yahoo or google user's groups that can be more selective, but what I found ended up being more like shiurim and haskofa.

Not that I'm against that, but looking for more light reading and the give and take of advice given. Like a readers write of the Yated or Coffee Room, but for ladies.

I guess if either or us ever finds something we can PM the other.

I will remember you user name.

Thank you.

A report on this year's Lakewood clothing shopping. I wound up purchasing the 2 dressy items I was looking for here in Chicago before I went, but still wanted some nice tops.

I was very successful at European Finesse (didn't get there last time). Also found one thing at Fashion Stop. Fashion Stop was too swamped for good shopping (I only had erev Shabbos to shop).

My DIL says I should have gone to Brooklyn SW, but I ran out of time. I'll try them on my next trip if I can.

Thanks for all the help.
