You can cook them just for about 5-10 minutes until defrosted or I cook them for what the packet says (I think its 15mins in boiling water) and then immediately pour into ICE cold water. It keeps the green color and makes them taste crispy.

Corn salad usually goes over really well with both kids and adults:
2 cans corn, drained
1 red and 1 green pepper, diced
about 3 scallions, white and green part, sliced
chopped dill to taste
salt and pepper to taste
sugar or sweetner to taste
a splash of white wine or cider vinegar (probably about 3 Tblsp.)
a bit of veg oil (about 2 Tlsp.)
You can also add green or black olive rings if you like.

OP, just to warn you... whichever salad you decide to bring, don't bring it in a nerdy salad bowl. People will notice!!!
