My 14 month old dd has been throwing up frequently for a while. It started when we introduced solids- she was 6 months old, eating a gerber puff, and suddenly started coughing and then threw up. for a while, it would only happen while she was eating, but then it started happening other times. now, she throws up often in the crib, while crying, or sometimes just out of the blue for seemingly no reason at all. We took her to a GI specialist, who said she is fine, and we tried giving her speech therapy but the therapist said she doesn't need it. She can go weeks without it happening, and then it will happen a few times in a week. Anyone have a similar situation, or no what it could be? Is it something she just has to grow out of ? thanks.

Some ideas I had:
1) Can you try and keep a diary to see if specific situations might trigger it? Can you link it to a specific food or smell, perhaps? Reflux, that may be triggered by certain foods, or by lying down soon after eating? Or a discipline situation where she might be trying to assert her will over you? Sounds weird but kids have been known to make themselves vomit to avoid things like going to bed or perhaps to protest against an unfamiliar person or situation, or just to demand extra attention from you. Or perhaps she has been very active and upset her tummy?
2)Does she chew her food properly? Swallowing large pieces can sometimes cause this. Even once the pieces are swallowed, they can occasionally come up again.
3)My kids tend to vomit very easily when they are tired so getting enough sleep is important.
4)Is she congested at all? Postnasal drip from a cold or seasonal allergies will tickle the back of the throat and sometimes activates my son's gag reflex and he vomits from that. I myself can vomit due to the feeling of congestion in the back of my throat.

It doesn't appear to be triggered by any one thing- it happens in the most random situations. And I don't think she has reflux...lying down after she eats could be a possible trigger, I think I will try giving her last bottle before bedtime earlier and see if that helps. She is a bit congested now, so maybe that is contributing as well! Is it possible she just has a very sensitive gag reflex? thanks

My baby has the same thing it sounds...like for weeks she wont vomit, then all of a sudden like, this past friday and shabbos she vomited twice. She doesnt seem to be sick or have fever. I have taken her to the doc many times about this, she just seemed to say some kids throw up, can be she ate too much, is very tired, etc. It does make me alittle uneasy though, so I underdstand what you are going through.
