Does anyone here work as an occupational therapist in Israel? What can you tell me about job options, average salary, the degree conversion test, opportunities for private work etc etc

the more information I can get, the better. Planning aliyah Sept. 2013, please G-d. Hoping to live in Jerusalem or surrounding areas, but not sure exactly.

Thank you.

what field are you in?
AFAIK, most people work with children in Ganim or hitpatchut hayeled, the latter earning about 25 shek an hour, working in a gan you usually make more, plus the benefit of being off when your kids are (summer, channukah).
Other fields are usually in hospitals, working for Misrad habriut, I don't know about salaries but it's usually full time (4-5 days a week), and about 10 vacation days a year (plus sick days for you and your chidren).
average salary? depends where, if you have your Masters (I think about 50% don't), how many years you've been working. but that's like that anywhere. I think the av salary ranges between 4,000-7,000 shekels.
I personally know quite a few OTs who work privately, all you have to do is get your name out there (of course have experience etc). There are TONS of people who pay out of pocket!
OT is generally a great field to work in here, it is totally in demand and you'll very likely find work right away.
regarding the test, I'll attach the link with the info- it's in hebrew though.
I don't know how good your hebrew is (to understand these requirements), but the exam can definitely be taken in English.
let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Amother - question for my daughter who is in an OT master's program in the US and is getting ready to pick fieldwork for next year. She plans to make aliyah in 2-3 years. What types of OT specialties would be best for private clients in Israel?

Skcomputer, I am a different amother and I don't live in Israel, but I figured I'd share my two cents Smile

In my experience as an OT, it is really beneficial to choose fieldwork settings that include the greatest range of diagnoses possible. I strongly recommend doing one level two fieldwork in pediatrics, and one in an adult setting. And within those, I would stay away from anything more specialized, so there is exposure to a wide range of diagnoses and treatment models.

You never know where life will take you and what setting will be most profitable, enjoyable, and fit best with your lifestyle. Fieldwork is a great opportunity to see what clicks with you, and to gain a basis for proficiency in all areas. I have been asked at job interviews whether I have experience treating x diagnosis, or using y treatment model. No one cares if you learned it in school, they want to know if you have the practical clinical skills.

Sorry for the long ramble! Hope it helps you.

my friend is an OT in hitpatchut hayeled and I'm pretty sure she makes 80 shekels for a 45 min session.

amother, any OT making 80 an hour works in a private clinic. They may receive referrals from doctors (through the kupa), but it is a private, or a semi-private clinic.
