It is Yiddish. Not sure exactly what it means but I believe it's in the same family as Brana and Breindel. _________________ "I'd agree with you, but then we would both be wrong".

Breina is brunette, brown. Breindel a pet form. I suppose Bryna is an American or creative spelling. It is definitely Yiddish. I love Breindel.
Melanie could be an interesting secular name for it _________________

OTOH, I heard of someone who researched the name Breindel and discovered that it is Old German for friend (Friendel- B & F are interchangable). Therefore she called her DD Reut when naming after a Breindel.

Interesting, one of my nieces has the name Bryna as her second name, and we were told it means "strong"
(yes it's Yiddish)

Thank you for this interesting thread. I have a relative named Brayna (I think?) Beis, yud, yud, reish, aleph and always thought it meant brunette, but that didn't make as much sense as fire or friend does when combined with her second name. _________________ I can't spell or proofread. | are Bryna and Breindel one and the same? like from the same root? two different deceased grandmothers to name after ... one is Bryna and one is Breindel... think I can only do one?? (obviously I would do them at separate times.. just wondering if they are the same and I should only use one of them)
