The average american consumes between 150-180 POUNDS of sugar a year!

The chemicals in diet drinks will kill you quicker than the sugar.

I am a recent convert to only water. I used to dehydrate when I stuck to water only (didnt like it so didnt drink enough). I recently changed my eating habits and overall diet and now actually ENJOY water. Unbelievable!

Only water or seltzer here. I buy one bottle of orange juice per week and dilute it. (I know, takes away from the taste but there's a lot of sugar in juice.)

Aspartame isn't any better than sugar. Please don't be fooled by diet drinks. They are chemically manufactured to make you want more of it, pretty much sabotaging anyone's diet.

I heard an interview on NPR a while back, with someone from the Pepsi company. She described how they put just enough flavor in their drinks/snacks to let you enjoy the taste but not have enough of it so you'll buy more and more. She also described how they chemically mimic the taste of natural flavors (ie., berry, banana, cherry, apple, etc) and then they label their package with: natural flavors.

When I heard that I was pretty glad I hadn't bought that kind of stuff for a good few years. It isn't food. It's a carefully manufactured chemical substance made to look like and taste like food, and to force you into buying more of it by tricking (and killing) your brain cells.

Anyone remember the news story not long ago about mothers feeding a crazy amount of sugar to their toddlers before they'd go on stage for some kind of performance? It was so sad.

Water, coffee, tea, wine. I rarely drink soda, we rarely have it at our house.

HOWEVER, I wonder how accurate those pictures are.

There are 774 calories in 1 cup of sugar.

HOWEVER, one can of red bull contains only 110 calories, 190 calories in that brand of chocolate milk and there would be calories from other products in the food ASIDE from the sugar.

I'm not questioning the quality of the drink but rather the accuracy of the reporting.

The mountain dew contains 2.5 servings in that one 20oz bottle. That's 77g of sugar, aka about 19 teaspoons of sugar, aka about 285 calories worth of sugar! There are 290 calories in the bottle, which means pretty much ALL the calories that make up the drink comes from sugar. Shocked

1/4 cup sugar in gefilte fish? Wow. Do most recipes call for so much sugar?

My husband likes very sweet gefilte fish. This is what I added to the cooking water, not to the fish itself, believe it or not. It might have been less than 1/4 cup - or might have been more - I didn't measure, just poured from the canister.

Only if you'd consume a few hundred liters of diet soda a day, several years in a row.
