About this picture: This picture puts things into perspective doesn't it? That is so much sugar. Research in the US had shown that one soft drink or sweet juice each day AT ANY AGE was associated with an 80% increase in the risk of acquiring diabetes in females. What ever happened to having water when you are thirsty? Why are people drinking these products so often? Share this, lets get the reality out there.

Also, that is not sugar in the water - it is a reflection. Please drink responsible - this is not an ad for bottled water. I am drinking water from a glass.

I did not take this photo, just sharing. Smile

I never drink any of that stuff, don't even bring it in the house. And I only give my child milk in the morning and water throughout the day.

I don't know... we don't really buy sodas, but I know they're given at school regularly, and we buy juices so there's bound to be some sugar in them too. I definitely drink mostly water, but I'm not the nutritionist type. Though I suppose I am compared to many

Gross. I would like to ask that you add "type 2" to the diabetes comment. My son has type 1 and it's a huge frustration when people just say "diabetes"...I wish I could have prevented his by limiting sugar!

My DD and I drink mostly water. She gets one fruit juice box a day with the equivalent of 2 and half teaspoons of sugar, however there is no added refined sugar, it is all from apples and other fruits.

I don't know many people who drink sugary soda every day. Most people I know drink diet. Now I'd love to see a bag full of chemicals hanging from the bottle...maybe my DH would break his Diet Coke addiction...

I don't know anyone who drinks soda regularly, just as an occasional shabbos treat at the shul kiddush or maybe at the meal.

I drink sweet drinks. I can only drink water if I am extremely thirsty...dehydrated basically!

I trained ds on water but he doesn't always drink it and occasionally I give him some grape juice/other juice but always always diluted with water.

I just dread thinking my kids teeth might end up looking like their neices/nephews/cousins (black from age 1!)

I am big on water. I train the kids from very early on to drink water and they go for it. We do water bottles in the summer.

We have apple juice in the house. If the kids drink it, it is only from age 4 onward, maximum twice a day, and it is only when diluted 1:4 with water.

Otherwise, they drink water or milk.

We are always stocked up on seltzer. I used to drink 4 - 5 cans of diet soda EVERY day! I quit diet soda a couple months ago. Now I only drink water, seltzer, tea, and sometimes coffee. Once in a while I will "reward" myself with a cold can of REGULAR coca cola Very Happy

It would have bothered me more before I realized that I used a kilo(!!!) of sugar in the course of my Shabbos preparations last week. Shocked

Very similar here in my house as well. We have apple pomegranate juice (less sweet than apple juice in my opinion). It is for my daughter for a small drink in the morning before gan and then one half a cup during supper. On shabbat she can have a little bit more. Thats it, other than that there is milk and water.

This is interesting. I would have thought that water comes naturally and they get "trained" or "in the habit" of drinking other things...
We buy 2 bottles of clear flavored soda for Shabbat for our family of 6 or seven. One for each meal. And that's only because I caved in after years of just water. Let's call it a Shabbat treat. If you come to my house for a visit, I can offer you herbal teas or coffee (hot or cold) or water (with or without ice cubes). No fun.

Starting from infantry if the kid is thirsty they get water from a cup. I always hear people say they have to start getting their kids to like water and they' re almost three..... If I have guest on shabbos I buy one soda but usually fresca since I can't get myself to buy the real bad stuff.

When I had nursing summer babies and I didn't feel like nursing, they got water in a bottle (not when they were hungry, when they were using me as a pacifier). Later, they moved to "sport bottles" with water. Juice wasn't an option. I worried about their teeth.

It isn't even real sugar, it's HFCS. That's why I drink only diet drinks (escept chocolate milk or dairy stuff).

We don't have soda in our house. We drink water or milk during the week, and on Shabbos we have juice which we (well, me and kids - dh is only barely on board) dilute.
Thanks for the pic though... perhaps I'll show it to dh to get him more convinced!

Lessee,

1/2 cup in the challah dough
2 cups in the birthday cake
1 3/4 cups in the erev Shabbos/Shabbos morning cake
1/4 cup in the gefilte fish
1 cup in the apple kugel
random teaspoons and tablespoons in other things like salads, kishke and so on

A kilo of sugar has five cups in it.
