What is Yapchik?

I've seen 'Yapchik' mentioned in quite a few threads. This is the first I have ever heard of it. Can anyone enlighten me - Firstly, what is it? Where does it originate from? When do you eat it? How is it made? and Lastly, how do you pronounce it?

I think it's Russian.

Anyway, for us, it's chicken thighs in a pan, covered with a potato kugel batter, then baked.

I had the same question, so I googled it and I got more than one answer it was strange.

Standard recipe is to make a recipe of potato kugel, put half in a pan, top that with meat (the kind you'd use in cholent), optionally kishka slices and marrow bones, then the rest of the kugel mixture. Cover tightly and bake overnight.

It's called Yapsuk.
And it's a Polish pesach cholent. Kind of like a gooey potato kugel with meat inside.
