How do you pronounce Tamar?

I thought that this name was pronounced Ta-mar, but my neighbour has a daughter called Tamar and she pronounces it Tay-mar.

I love the name but wondering what is the correct pronunciation?

TAY-mar is the secular pronunciation, Ta-mar is Hebrew.

yes I don't know why people pronounce is Tay-mar (it does not read like that?), but I think Israeli people pronounce it Tamar, like you would pronounce Tamara, just without the a

so, depends where you live, what a girl would be called

I've heard the accent on both the first and last syllable:

TUH-mahr by yeshivish/heimish people; rarely as a person's name, and more commonly when speaking about the biblical character

Ta-MAHR is the most frequent pronunciation I've heard. Most people with this name that I know pronounce it this way, and this is my preferred pronunciation, as it's more grammatically correct.

I've never heard Tay-mar

Most that I know are tah-MAHR.
But I also know some who are TUH-muhr.
