I was under the impression that ideally one should have separate Pesach pots/pans, etc and hagala is for extreme situations. Everyone is advertising times and places to do hagala andsince this is the first time we're doing leil seder and need some more cooking utensils, now DH keeps asking if we should do hagala instead of buying
what does everyone else do?

| It's certainly more convenient to have a separate set of dishes if you have the money and the space for it, but I've never heard of it being halachically better. Once it's been properly kashered a dish is 100% kosher, not just b'dievad kosher.

Over the course of many years I have acquired just about a complete kitchen's worth of Pesach stuff. We kashered flatware every year for more than a decade until my brother bought me a set just for Pesach. We've done hagalah on pots and pans a few times but it's really not worth the effort to scrub them down if you can afford a few new ones and have a dedicated place to store them the rest of the year.
BTW, hagalah for small items is not hard to do at home. We still do it for kiddush cups and utensils that became treif during the year. _________________

Only things we kasher by hagalah are silver bechers. Everything else I have separate stuff for Pesach. _________________ Want to lose weight fast? Want to keep it off easily?

| While normally I do hagalah on flatware, I noticed some of my normal chometz stuff I was going to dip had some pitting on it, so I had to go out and buy Pesach flatware. I guess it depends on the condition of the stuff you want to do hagalah on, but it's 100 percent kosher, as a previous poster said.

| The only thing we do hagalah on is the sinks. Everything else is "Special For Pesach".

| In Lubavitch, we kasher the bare minimum.

I am quite sure that in (geographical) Lubavitch, there was lots of kashering.

| hagala is just as kosher as new dishes. it is easier to have separate pots and utensils, but it is just as kosher to kasher the ones you have. I am taking a break from kashering my utensils and kiddush cups as we speak....

Not true. the Rebbe & Rebbetzin in der alte heim only used the few new pots they could get.
