5000 for pesach shopping

5000 for sukkot shopping

1500 a month on various other things
But that does not come out to $25,000, it comes to $11,500, just wanted to point that out.

Personally, I buy almost nothing for myself. I have not bought a pair of shoes in about two years. I dont wear make up, nail polish or any of those things. I have not bought any new clothing either in the past two years. I think I may have bought a few pairs of socks this year and that cost maybe 50 shekels, which is roughly a bit more than $10.

I buy deodorant at about 20 shekels a pop and I would say I go through a lot of deodorant, so I would say about 400 shekels worth of deodorant, which is about $100.
So maybe in all $150.

no, its 5000 times 2 for pesach and sukkos= 10,000

ten other months at 1500 each =15,000
altogether= 25,000

Amother, don't tell me you need an all-body wax for your job. I hope you are not in that kind of business...

Ladies, I didn't mean to imply that full body wax, pedis, and teeth whitening are basic hygiene.
The post wrote it as waxing, manicures and teeth whitening- that's more basic. But true, not an absolute monthly must.

Amother, now that you've done your Pesach 2012 shopping, what are you doing with your outdated $5,000.00 Pesach 2011 wardrobe? I know some people who would love to get nice things that are a year or two old, if you're going to just be shoving it to the back of your closet to collect dust!

What city are you in? I can try to figure out how to arrange for you to drop off the clothing anonymously!

Don't be so hard on Amother 25k, let her at least enjoy the lack of financial stress. And lots of pple consider waxing basic hygeine.

And I doubt she has much more clothing than anyone else, probably pays a lot more per peice than most.

And you can always ask for a spray tan or tooth whitening for your birthday or anniversary from someone if you really want one too, or put aside for it and have it every fourth pesach..

when you work hard you need to play hard too.

Do most women out there really do these things every month? And consider it to be basic grooming? If so, I am sorely not hygienic Confused
Not that it bothers me. I do what I do to keep myself what I consider hygienic.

Just a question, why is waxing, pedicure and teeth whitening considered something that is connected to hygiene? I find those things to be about beautifying ones self, not hygiene.

Well, waxing for one, is considered hygiene by many women. Depends I guess on how much hair you have and where. (for example facial hair)

Manicures- I guess u substitute that with your own nail clipper.

And teeth whitening to me is hygiene- not 100 percent sparkling, but dark yellow teeth are horrible. Once in 6 months maybe?

That said, it's time for another whitening for me!

I probably buy 2 pairs of shoes a year at around $80 a pair - $160
I just bought yom tov clothing, 3 skirts and a top - $100 (probably about typical for me for yom tov)

Monthly, my guess is I spend another $20 a month for odds and ends of clothing - shells, a skirt here or there, stockings or tights. I spend more some months and nothing others. So that's about another $240 for the year.

Personal hygiene stuff plus make-up probably adds another $10 a month - $120.

That about does it - so around $620 a year. Add in the extra $80 just to round it out in case my estimates are off - $700 a year.

about the waxing, but I still dont get why hair, lets say on the face, for women, is not hygienic? It may not be too pretty, but not hygienic?
manicure as well? why is this connected to hygiene and not beauty?
And teeth whitening as well?

Maybe we have to define hygiene here?

yes, shabbatiscoming, I think some imamothers need to have the concept 'hygiene' clarified for them, judging by posts and threads in the hygiene forum and other forums as well.

From the Oxford dictionary

do you mind if I quote you in the hygiene forum?

oh, I dont think that will eliminate all those threads which we dont think comes under hygiene, because people will say that " removing hair makes it easier to clean there". cant you hear them? then I wonder why they dont remove all hair?

just wondering.

I suppose its different strokes for different people?

Because if you define it as "hygiene," it seems more like a "need" and less like a "want," so it's easier to justify.

I cannot believe some of the numbers on this thread. Yes, I think that if you earn enough money to spend it, you should spend it on what you want in order to make your life easier and happier. But do all of these things really make life easier and happier? If you're so busy working, how on earth do you have time to do that much shopping and grooming (assuming you have a family)?

So I guess I'll share mine now...

I don't wear makeup except on Shabbos and to simchas. Most/all? of my makeup is at least a few years old.

I only buy clothes when I need them, such as maternity clothes in a season that I haven't been pregnant before. If I throw out several shirts because they're getting stretched out or pilled or something, then I'll buy another one cheap at the end of season sales. So on average, maybe 100 dollars a year on clothes, maybe only 50, I'm not sure.

I probably buy one new pair of shoes a year, either Shabbos or weekday. 60 dollars or so.

No manicures, no facial, none of that stuff. What a waste of time, for me at least. Rather spend time with my kids, get some work done, or just relax (I don't find them relaxing at all).

Anything else? I get my sheitel set twice a year, before Pesach and Sukkos, so if I include that, add another 80 dollars. Wearing the same sheitel I got when I was married 8 years ago.

I can't think of anything else, so about 200 a year, give or take fifty dollars.

My dh probably spends about the same amount on himself, mostly for shoes that wear out and for clothes. He does send his shirts to the cleaners though (we live in a tiny apartment with no room for an ironing board, and the no-iron shirts didn't work for us). So that would add on a bit.

I forgot to include makeup, shampoo and stuff like that.

I would say there is hygeine and beauty. Some things, like washing hair and cutting nails, is for hygeine. Manicures, waxing, make up and so on count as beauty. Beauty is important too, if it makes you and dh happy.

Let's not call it "hygiene". Let's name it "anything that will be of disgust to others". Like a tiny black mustache on a woman's face, yellow teeth, long nails, etc.

To me that's a basic.
