I forgot to light one candle last shabbos!

There is a halacha or minhag that if you forget one candle you must light an extra one your entire life....

I recently had a baby thus added another candle but I was hardly home for shabbos since then (when I go away I always light only 2) so I didn't yet get into the habit of the the extra...

My rabbi is trying to find a way I shouldn't have to add another candle but I must tell him what I will do to always remember- & it must be before this shabbos..

Any ideas?

Did you tell your rabbi it was an extra candle and that you lit (at least) two?

I can't see why it's a problem. I also forgot to light an extra after my baby as born because it a tealight that I didn't see until I got a candleholder. Sometimes my husband lit it if he was still home, sometimes it didn't get lit. I'm not makpid outside the home either.

It's a nice thing to do; not a halacha. I didn't even think of asking a shaila.
Now, I'm curious...as Shalhevet said, did you mention that it was an extra candle, and you lit the regular ones?

Lighting at extra candle is if you forgot to light because you forgot Shabbos was coming/here, from what I understand. It's not about the candles; it's about Shabbos.
