Who cares, IMO. If he thinks it's funny, let him do it. _________________ black sheep wrote: Trauma doesn't ruin lives; never recovering from trauma ruins lives.

MNSHO: It's especially funny if he's a skinny guy who has to pad himself up with pillows. If he's naturally zaftig, it sorta loses something.

I had a girl in my high school dress up as santa claus for the purim chagiga.
The principal could not even do anything because she was dressed as a nun
I know that it is not the same, but in my opinion, if the person, man or woman, thinks its funny, why not?

Do you really think that this family has any idea who santa clauss is? I highly doubt it.

shabbatiscoming, that's a great pic, really funny!
As for the question: Inappropriate?... well, I haven't really figured what is/is not appropriate for Purim. Tasteless maybe, but not offensive and very much in the spirit of the holiday. Purim is certainly a time for generosity and giving gifts. _________________

So ignorance is an acceptable reason to celebrate with avodas Zara type stuff? _________________ Never mistake activity for achievement.

I never said they knew. In Israel I would accept it more than anywhere else because how should they know.
In america, and other countries, most people know who santa is and what he is related to...It is not tasteful.

| That's like saying if they hung a cross in their living room for decoration it would be OK.

I am 100% sure that those chasiddim do not know about x-mas and all that goes with it. That is why it bechlal is a costume in Israel.

Well, if they lived in a Moslem country and had no idea, of course it would be okay.
How can something be not okay if we have no idea that it's a symbol of avoda zara? Say I hung up a decoration in my living room and no one told me it was the symbol of the Wackywackydo religion in a remote region of Africa which bows down to it? There is no mitzva to go round the world and seek out all the religions and learn what symbols they use.
Just because you live in America and a red and white costume with a white beard means Santa Claus and Xmas to you, doesn't mean it does at all to frum Israelis. They probably thought they were dwarves or rebbes or something. Possibly the guy in the shop had no idea either, and the wholesaler had brought it with a whole stack of weird TV characters who he had never seen or heard of either. _________________ "The problem begins with... their political hangers oners... such as Anat Hoffman.
