Anybody know what we can feed a hamster over pesach? Every pkg I read has wheat in it.

From Star-K's website:

HAMSTERS, GUINEA PIGS, GERBILS & RABBITS
• Best to feed pure alfalfa pellets. Make sure it is pure alfalfa since it is common to add grains. Dried alfalfa may also be given.
• Can supplement with mixture of cut-up fruits and vegetables – carrots, broccoli, grapes, apples, melon, kale, parsley, oranges, celery, dry corn, sunflower seeds, cabbage. Can also give some matza. If not accustomed to these items, give sparingly.
• Guinea pigs, especially, will benefit from kale, parsley and oranges.
• Hamsters, especially, will benefit from apples.
• Guinea pigs need vitamin C added to diet.

make your own kitnius mix of dried corn kernals, sunflower seeds in their shells. quinoa.
(we need to do this too. any other non-chometz ideas? can they eat raw rice? can they handle it the way they do barley or will it hurt their stomach?)

also a very tiny amount of diced carrot and apple each day.

Found this

http://www.ehow.com/how_4423636_make-own-organic-hamster-food.html

I guess equal amounts of sunflower seeds, flax seeds, lentils, and pumpkin seeds are well balanced enough for him to eat for 8 days, along with treats of apple and carrot.

we have one and feed him just about anything that's healthy. On pesach just give matzah and fruits and veg. he also likes little bits of hard boiled eggs, and chicken, likes rice too. no need to buy anything special
