sweetbreads in vol au vents (if the butcher gets them; otherwise corned beef cubes in some sort of sauce if I can think of one or else creamed mushrooms or cubed schnitzel. Or something. I have the vol au vents and they need to get filled.)
ptcha (all for me, no one else will touch it or look at it )
maybe creamed chicken soup
stuffed cabbage
shlishkes and tashkelach
marinated vegetable salad
ice cream or something

Challah
Vegetable salad
Chicken soup with kreplach
Sesame chicken
Roast
Vegetable lo mein
Scalloped potatoes
Grilled vegetables (or similar)
Ice cream cake
I'm hosting the whole family -- around 22-24 adults/older kids plus 10-12 younger kids. I'm making (actually have made and frozen) the challah, soup, kreplach, sesame chicken (the famous recipe on here) and roast. Others are making the remaining items. _________________ Want to lose weight fast? Want to keep it off easily?

Spicy shnitzel, like they serve at Dougies
I like non frying shnitzels because when making so much, a pain to stand and fry a whole day. Here are two favorites around here.
FIRE POPPERS[b]
Either fry small pieces of chicken cutlets in batter or I just egg and dip in spiced bread crumbs.
Then I bake them covered for 20 minutes breaded.
Add sauce, bake another 20 minutes covered.
Bake 5-10 min uncovered
SAUCE:In a small pot boil up: (this recipe is for one 9x13. I don't find it to be enough sauce.
I would triple the recipe for 2 9x13.)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup Franks red hot sauce
1/4 cup honey
(I once heard to add garlic powder, flour and at end baking soda. don't always do that. beware when add baking soda may overflow, gets very fluffy)
SESAME CHICKEN
coat shnitzel in flour (mix in bowl with a lot of flour and will stick without eggs)
lay in 9 by 13 greased pan
1 cup brown sugar
5 TBS ketchup
2 TBS each: oil, mustard and viniger
sesame seeds in mixture (1/2 cup) or pour more on top after
mix well and pour over chicken. bake on 350, covered half hour and uncover for 15 minutes.

OOTBubby --- which recipe for scalloped potatoes do you use? I made it once and it came out a greasy mess! I'd love to try it again with a different recipe though! _________________ "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain..."

Here's the recipe I contribute to the Purim Seudah we make with several other families. Very yum if I do say so myself.
Peach Glazed Beef Cubes
1 16 oz can sliced peaches, drained
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. vinegar
1 clove minced galic
1 tsp. ginger
1/4 c. ketchup
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp salt (I don't use this)
Dash pepper
4 lbs. beef cubes
Puree peaches in blender. Add remaining ingredients, blend and pour over meat. Bake covered at 325 until meat is soft.

Sorry, I don't know. DD is making it. It isn't something I normally make.

Sorry, didn't see this till now. I'll post lkwdmommy's recipe, as that's the one I'm planning to try if I do make the soup.
| Quote: | I make a regular chicken soup, making sure it has a stronger than usual taste. (For a large pot of soup, I use a turkey drumstick or some turkey necks.)
Then, in a seperate pot I cook some white rice with a lot of water (1:3 ratio I.e. 3 times more water than rice) for a long time till the rice is mushy. Then, I blend the rice till it's completely smooth (be careful that no pieces of rice remain) and combine it with the soup. Bring it back to a boil before serving. Optional (and I do these): cut chicken cutlets into small pieces and add to soup before reboiling it. Also, frozen peas and carrots-a small amount as you like it. Watch carefully not to scorch the soup-keep mixing it while it recooks for about 15 minutes. Looks and tastes great! |

Chicken soup and Matzo Balls
Roast
Turkey Roast (we have a guest who doesn't eat red meat, so I figured the leftovers will cover me for Shabbos)
Stuffed peppers
Sweet Noodle Kugel
Broccoli Kugel
Scalloped Potatoes
Green Salad
Rice Salad
CousCous Salad
Desserts:
Hamantaschen
Bite sized Brownies
Shickerdoodles
Chocolate mousse cups
Fruit
We have a mostly male crowd this year, so I went heavier on the foods the guys tend to like.
