Has anyone used probiotics (specifically BioGaia Protectis) for colic with any success? BioGaia Protectis
Oh heck, has anyone used anything or done anything at all for a colicky baby with success OTHER THAN the Happiest Baby on the Block (techniques not working with this one) or just waiting it out? I am so tired of the constant crying... can't imagine the baby likes it much either.

Hi chatouli!
Firstly, Mazel tov! I which you much nachas and joy from your precious little bundle!!
A few things,
I have heard of very, very good results with HLC Neonate Powder from Pharmax: https://www.rockwellnutrition.com/HLC-Neonate-Powder-infant-probiotic-by-Pharmax-Non-Returnable_p_60.html# . I have not tried it personally, so I can't say 100%, but from what I've heard it would be my first choice if I were in your position. Especially if you have had any antibiotics during or close to your birth, that will throw a baby's digestion out of whack and make digestion very difficult for his/her tiny system.
The second thing I would suggest is to look into a helpful technique called EFT. It's very similar in theory to acupuncture, but there are no needles. It's done wonders for me and my babies. You can google it - https://www.google.com/search?q=EFT+colic&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&safe=active. If you'd like to talk to me more about how to use it, you can pm me.
And above all, none of this will work if Hashem doesn't will it. When your baby cries, cry with him to Hashem to help your efforts and hishtadlus succeed!
B'Hatzlacha Raba Raba!

Are you nursing or bottle feeding? If it's bottle, I have lots to tell you, because I'm a foster mom and have bottle fed something like 30 babies.
First of all, don't use the anticolic (milicone) drops mentioned above too often because it's not healthy. The probiotic may be helpful.
What does work very well, is fresh squeezed lemon juice diluted in mineral water. Obviously make sure there are no seeds, and it's not too sour nor too diluted, and it must be squeezed fresh daily or semi-daily. About 5 ml at the most should do the trick, given a few minutes before feeds, or if you forget, after is fine, and for the first few days you do this, you may need to do it before and after feeds until his tummy calms down.
Also, the other very important piece of info you need, is not to over feed. I doubt you under feed, as most women panic and feed everytime the baby cries. The best thing you can do is put the baby on a schedule, if you want to eliminate colic. Usually colic is caused by feeding too soon, with meals too close together, ime. Your baby's tummy needs to rest. So if you usually feed every two hours, try to wait three. If bottle fed, almost always do you want to work to get the feeds stretched to four hours, as it takes longer to digest formula.
Good luck and enjoy! _________________ black sheep wrote: Trauma doesn't ruin lives; never recovering from trauma ruins lives.

Thank you for all the responses.
I have tried Colic Calm (which I believe does contain fennel). I have tried simethecone, and believe me there are plenty of times I do cry with the baby (especially between 1 am and 5 am). I will look up EFT - never heard of it. Baby is taking .8 ml of Zantac 2x a day, so far it hasn't helped. He's been on it about a week. I do believe he may be refluxy because after he eats he often wheezes and then milk comes out of his nose and he becomes hysterical. He spits up a lot too. He's very very gassy. He's just a big ball of digestive misery. I started the BioGaia probiotics yesterday, I am hoping they will work - and soon!
I am nursing but I do give some formula too. Doctor said not to switch from regular formula to a formula for fussy babies until 2 weeks on the Zantac has elapsed. Anyway he only gets a few ounces of formula a day (no more than 4-6). I haven't tried cutting out dairy yet since it's really, really hard for me to do. But if this continues past next week I will do it.
Any other ideas?

| if your baby has acid reflux you can try something called, MEGA calm baby, it realy helped my baby so much! he also would just scream for hours until I gave him this, but I found that you need to give it a few days to work and it should be given 20 min before every feeding

I know this thread is a few months old but I have a question,
I have probiotics called Kiddie Max from the Maxi health company. Can I give that to my baby for colic. My baby cries non stop and I am going crazy. I am gonna take him to the Dr next week to rule out any other issues. Any tips and advice would be appreciated. _________________

I tried probiotics for colic and they seemingly made no difference. I had BioGaia probiotics and I took acidophilus pills myself. The study I read about said that lactobacillus reuteri was linked with reduced crying. Well, maybe in other babies, but not mine!
In all honesty I was actually just about to update my other baby-crying thread. I went off dairy and it has made a tremendous difference. It happened within 3 or 4 days. He just became a happier baby. I wish I had done it weeks ago, but I felt strongly that whenever anything is wrong, people blame the breast milk and since I don't care for meat except on Shabbos, I didn't want to do it. BIG mistake. Now my baby is so much happier and I'm even losing some weight (b/c I am starving!!).
Maybe give it a try? I think my poor baby's tummy just really hurt him and that was why he ended up with all kinds of mean nicknames like Fussolini and Saddam Fuss-sein (my MIL really didn't like that one, but she didn't live here during the eat-sleep-cry phase).
Hatzlacha!

| What can a doctor prescribe to make a baby stop fussing? The best my ped could prescribe was a babysitter bc otherwise I'd have lost my mind for sure.
