You know the thin strips of smoked salmon that comes vaccum packed?

Would you freeze a package for later use? Would it still taste as good?

I do this and it's fine. Defrost in a bowl of hot water for about a minute. Do not microwave, because that starts a fire.

I have done it, but find it has a rubbery texture afterwards

Very Happy The packaging starts a fire in a microwave.

I have a package in the freezer for ages and I've been afraid to defrost it Wink So it's just waiting there. And of course, I won't buy new smoked salmon because I have some in the freezer.

I also freeze lox. I must buy the non-rubbery type.

It is good when defrosted. I also repackage into smaller portions. I defrost in the fridge.

Have you thought of cooking it? Too me, it is too expensive to waste. I would cook it with rice and vegetables and a sauce. You could also spice it and then stream it over onions and lemons and serve it with pasta and a sour creme sauce.

I am sure on this site, you could get dozens of recipes.

I freeze it all the time. It tastes fine when defrosted, but it tastes better before it's frozen. I also defrost in the refrigerator. Dh defrosts under running cold water.

I freeze it then leave in the fridge to defrost or on the counter.
Tastes fine.

I'm pretty sure I've seen frozen lox in the supermarket, so it must be OK to freeze it. Have never tried it, as we only buy the refrigerated packets, but I would imagine it tastes fine.
