Sounds like you have a double standard with regards to people going a bit out of their way for s/o else. You are annoyed you were inconvenienced waking up your baby toget your husband, but you expect a stranger to go 5 minutes out of their way to accomidate him.
With regard to what I would do, I probably would not give a ride to an unknown man but would do so for an unknown woman. However, when I am on my way home from work, coming home 5 minutes late often means the difference between my caregiver making or missing her bus to connect to her train so I would not be able to do a favor for a stranger if that would mean inconveniencing my employee. If I have an extra 5 minutes to stop for milk at the grocery on the way home, that does not mean that I have another extra 5 minutes on top of that to give someone a ride.

Am I the only one who pictures "farm" saying what she's saying while crazily holding up a bubbling beaker? Razz

If I'm in the car anyway and I DO have extra time, then it's way easier to give the ride than for someone to wake up a sleeping child. It's a chesed, a good thing to do, even though it's not an obligation (and like I said before, I would not really want to impose on someone unless I had no choice).

I would not give a ride to someone I don't know. I don't know what DH would do. Similarly, I would not take a ride from someone I don't know. Too many scary stories out there.

Both Dh and I only give rides to people we know. There are a lot of crazies out there, even frum ones and even ones dressed up as frum. And yes, there are men looking for men, so yes, men do have to watch out. And having meshulachim come into your house is very different- going into a car with someone is very dangerous.

I would most likely give the ride and so would dh. In fact, when I have been at the bus station to drop s/o off or pick s/o up, and a frum person gets off the bus, I will usually offer them a ride.
