Why not google it?
No link with being charedi or not charedi or frum. It's a place.

Prussia was a country in Central Europe. After WWI, it was divvied up- Germany, Russia and Poland each got a piece of the pie.

I just started writing a whole European history post, but wiki does it best.

Prussia does not exist anymore, but it is proper to refer to someone as coming from Prussia, if that's what it was when they were born there.

European history is fabulous that way. When you think of a city or town, you have to consider the time as well. A place may have a totally different 'flavor' depending on who was ruling it at the time... not to mention its language and ethnic makeup.

If you ask me where my grandmother was born, I would tell you she was born in Austria-Hungary.

Austria-Hungary was a powerful empire once, as was Prussia.

prussia has nothing whatsoever to do with russia or poland ( I am a history graduate which is why I know this lol).

before the late unification of Germany in the late 1800's, there were many German speaking kingdoms. it was like the united states, I.e, different states, but not unified. The major kingdom was Prussia. Prussia was home to Otto Van Bismarck, a German nationalist, who wanted to unite all these little kingdoms into one large country called Germany. Bismarck and Prussia defeated Austria-Hungary in the Austro-Prussian War and France in the Franco-Prussian War. These victories helped Bismarck unite the German kingdoms into Germany, with Prussia as the center of government, under Kaiser Wilhelm I and later Wilhelm II.

so Prussia was a nation that existed alone until around 1870 . In 1871 the many German states were unified and Prussia constituted the largest area under the new country of Germany.

The term is not used anymore except for geographical and historical purposes. Most of what was Prussia is now modern day germany.

Do you mean King of Prussia? Which I've always thought was a really weird name for a place.
